St Sylvesters secured the last semi final place in the Dublin LGFA senior club championship on a dramatic night which ended with three teams tied on six points.

Going into last night’s final Group A games St Brigids, St Sylvesters and Clontarf were all in the hunt for the final coveted place in the knockout stages of this year’s Dublin LGFA senior championship.

St Brigids last year’s beaten finalists were sitting in second place in the group on six points and travelled to play Clontarf needing either a win or a draw to make the semi’s.

For Clontarf who swept aside all before them last season to claim Intermediate County, Provincial and All Ireland honours, needed a win to have any chance of prolonging their first season at senior level.

And they did just that securing a three point win over St Brigids by 4-09 to 2-11 and joined the Russell Park outfit on six points.

In the other Group A game St Sylvesters hosted Na Fianna at their Broomfield venue. The team from Mobhi Road headed into the game on the back of three losses in a row and out of the running for the knockout stages.

Their hosts from Malahide though certainly had plenty to play for with a win for the home side potentially, depending on the result of the other group game, securing a semi final place.

Sylvesters held up their part of the equation and recorded a four point win over Na Fianna by 5-09 to 4-08 to join St Brigids and Clontarf on six points.

With one spot available and three teams tied on the same number of points the competition rules for such a scenario kicked in and St Sylvesters claimed second place in Group A on score difference and can look forward to the semi finals later in the year.
