St Maurs (Dublin) 1-15
Latton (Monaghan) 2-08

Dublin and Leinster Champions St Maurs booked their place in the All-Ireland ladies junior club football final today after another titanic battle with Latton.

It was a game not good for the nerves of either clubs supporters as for the second week in a row today’s game went to extra time. But unlike last week, St Maurs powered home in the second half of extra time hitting the last four scores.

Just like last weeks game the two sides were very evenly matched, Maurs hit the first goal of the game from Aine Pyne, but Layton hit back with a goal of their own moments later scored by Eileen Conlan and just as it was in the drawn game the sides were level at the break with the score 1-05 apiece. It could have been very different though as Layton were awarded a penalty three minutes before half time but Joanne Culleton pulled her attempt wide.

Latton hit the first point of the second half but it was St Maurs who took control of the early running and hit five unanswered points to lead by four with Niamh Carty and Olivia Leonard the main driving forces for the Rush outfit.

But like they did last week Latton showed plenty of grit and determination and fought back to draw level thanks to a Katie Duffy pointed free and a well taken goal from Shannon Conlan. And by the final whistle there was still nothing to separate the sides with the score St Maurs 1-10, Latton 2-07 and the game headed for extra time.

The first half of extra time was high on action but low in scores as both sides only managed a point each and at half time of extra time the sides were still level and looked liked it was going to need the use of a crowbar to separate them.

But cometh the hour, cometh the woman as Olivia Leonard grab the game by the scruff of the neck to hit two points to bring her personal tally for the game to six points all from play. Niamh Carthy then nailed two late frees to seal the deal for St Maurs and their place in the All Ireland Club Final.

That Junior All Ireland Club Championship Final will take place next Saturday the 3rd of December in Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow where St Maurs will take on Kinsale for All Ireland glory.
