Dublin and Meath go head to head again in this year’s Leinster U16 Ladies Football Final

Leinster U16 Ladies Football Final

Dublin v Meath
Saturday, April 27th. 2:00pm
Ballymore Eustace GAA, Kildare

Most people never get tired of watching Dublin and Meath go face to face in Championship action. And today is no different. Both of these sides have faced each other on so many occasions. You can be guaranteed a fine exhibition of Football this afternoon.

Back at the end of March these sides faced each other in Round 2 of the competition. Dublin came out the losing side that day. A dominant first half from the girls from the Royal County which included five goals set them on their way to victory. Dublin were the better side in the second half. But the twenty point deficit they faced after the opening thirty minutes proved too big a gap to close.

Round by Round

Today the slate is wiped clean as the Leinster silverware is up for grabs. Dublin’s campaign to date hasn’t been plain sailing and has included a mixed bag performance wise. The opening round of the seasons competition against Longford turned into an epic battle. Dublin’s young team eventually got the better of their midland opponents in an eleven goal thriller with the final score 6-06 to 5-06.

On to round two and a meeting with old foes and near neighbours Meath. Dublin were brought back down to earth as they suffered a 15 point mauling from the Royal County with the Dub’s going down by 1-08 to 6-08.

That result left Declan Darcy’s team needing to beat reigning U16 Leinster Ladies Football champions Kildare in round 3 to make this seasons Leinster championship final.

And beat them they did by a commanding 28 point margin. Goals from Aisling O’Neill and Katie Sullivan with two each and one a piece from Emma Howe and Ava Corcoran helped Dublin on the way to a 6-16 to 1-03 victory and a place in the 2019 U16 Leinster Final and a highly anticipated rematch with Meath.
