Dublin overcame a tough challenge from Donegal last Saturday in the TG4 All Ireland SFC quarter final to qualify for the semi’s for the third year in a row.

It was Dublin’s first competitive game in five weeks and not surprisingly it took them a little while to shake off the cobwebs.

Donegal having only played in a qualifier game two weeks before Saturday’s game were a little more match sharp and led by two points at the break with the score 1-04 to 0-05.

But the girls in blue found their feet early on in the second half and pressed Donegal onto the backfoot. Soon enough the better quality of players in the Dublin ranks was to prove too much for Donegal and the girls from the capital were soon in front.

A powerful run from Dublin Captain Noelle Healy left a string of Donegal players in her wake, Noelle then gave an excellent pass to Sinead Aherne who finished the ball to the back of the net.

Dublin never looked back after that despite Donegal scoring a second goal which was only possible thanks to an illegal thrown ball in the build up to the goal.

The Dubs though grabbed the last two points of the game and ran out deserving winners and will now face Mayo in the All Ireland SFC semi final on Saturday week.
