The week has flown by yet again and it’s time to name the We Are Dublin, Dublin Player Of The Weekend.
For our new followers who joined us this week, this is an award we give each Wednesday to a player we believe was the standout Dublin player from the previous weekends action.
Last weekend we had plenty of action from the worlds of men’s senior hurling, ladies football and camogie to choose from.
But our winner this week comes from a pulsating game on Sunday, that had all the excitement and drama you could wish for in a game.
We are of course talking about the Leinster Ladies Minor Football Final between Dublin and Westmeath which went all the way to extra time before Dublin came out on top.
There were a multitude of top class performers on the day, Siabh Hannigan was a rock at the back, Tarah O’Sullivan gave a real Captains performance, Emily Flanagan linked defence and attack with aplomb, Erica Byrne ruled midfield, while up front Danielle Lawless, Julia Buckley and Rachel Douglas were a major handful for the Westmeath back line.
And that’s just to name a few of the standout players Mia Jennings ran herself into the ground and it wasn’t just the starting 15 who shone, every player that came in off the bench made a major impact.
So although this is normally an individual award for the second week in a row we feel it would be very unfair and also quite impossible to pick just one player such was the contribution from all involved.
So the winners of this weeks We Are Dublin, Dublin Player Of The Weekend Award goes to the entire DUBLIN LADIES MINOR FOOTBALL SQUAD.
Well done ladies very well deserved for an outstanding performance in the Leinster Final. #COYGIB
