Dublin’s Senior Ladies Footballers made history today as the won their fifth Leinster Title in a row.
Dublin annihilated Westmeath this afternoon with a stunning display of attacking football. The sky blues equally impressive in defence as the ferociously swallowed up the Westmeath forward line.
Dublin’s work rate was phenomenal today as they relentlessly hunted down players in maroon jerseys. There will be few games in any code this season that will have as high a total of tackles in it.
Leading by nine at the break Dublin came out for the second period and hit the afterburners and left the midlanders in their wake.
Ten minutes into the second half and Lyndsey Davey broke through the packed Westmeath defence and buried the ball to the back of the net, Game Over.
But Dublin had Westmeath in a vice like grip and were not letting go and drove relentlessly on. Dublin tagged on five unanswered points to push further ahead and Westmeath had no answers.
To cap off a stunning display Dublin hit two more goals in the space of a few minutes in the closing stages from Sinead Aherne and Carla Rowe to seal a one sided emphatic victory.
Dublin’s Nicole Owens was scintillating today hitting six cracking points from play and deservedly won the Player Of The Match Award. #COYGIB
