Plenty Of Drama And Tension In Last Night’s Junior Club Championship Semi Finals
It was a Wednesday night full of drama and tension as the semi finals of the Dublin LGFA Junior C, D, E and F club championships took place.
With coveted places in the county finals up for grabs none of the sides involved wanted to fall at the penultimate stage and that insured an evening of entertaining and quality football.
In the Junior C club championship semi finals, Naomh Olaf hosted St Brendan’s and unfortunately for the home side they encountered a St Brendan’s side in scintillating form on the night who shot the lights out and had 28 points to spare at the end with the final score 6-14 to 0-04.
The other semi final was a much tighter affair between Crumlin and Clontarf B. It was a titanic battle throughout in the wind and rain, Crumlin played with the aid of the wind in the first half and led by 0-06 to no score at the break.
Clontarf B stages a comeback in the second half but a vital goal for Crumlin by Cathrine O’Brien helped to secure 1-06 to 1-02 win.
The Junior D club championship semi finals threw up two fascinating encounters.
Naomh Mearnóg welcomed Ranelagh Gaels to Portmarnock and the two sides shared seven goals between them, but it Ranelagh Gaels point scoring which proved the decisive factor as they claimed the win by 3-15 to 4-06.
Wednesday evening’s other semi final in the Junior D club championship was between Garristown and Ballymun Kickhams.
Based on the two sides form guide from their Group games and also with home advantage Garristown were seen as hit favorites to claim the win.
But Ballymun weren’t there to make up the numbers and raised three green flags on the night, but Garristown hit two majors of their own and their ability to take their point scoring opportunities when they arrived secured a three point win on a scoreline of 2-10 to 3-04.
In the Junior E club championship semi finals Wanderers beat Stars Of Erin by 0-09 to 1-04 and Templeogue Synge Street B secured the Win Over St Sylvesters B by the narrowest of margins with the final score 2-07 to 2-06.
There were two high scoring semi finals in the Junior F club championship, just a single point separated Na Gaeil Oga and Clontarf C at the finish of a game that produced 7-20 between the sides, but is was Na Gaeil Oga who prevailed by 4-09 to 3-11
Round Towers Lusk and St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh met in the other semi final and that old adage of goals win games certainly was applicable to this one.
Round Towers found the net six times which helped secure a two point win and place in the final with the full time score 6-07 to 4-11.
