A big night ahead for many teams involved in Dublin LGFA club championships round 2 fixtures
It’s another action packed Wednesday evening for ladies footballers around the county involved in a host of Dublin LGFA club championships round 2 fixtures.
With only one round played so far players will head to the fields of play with championship aspirations still very much alive and well.
In Group 1 of the senior championship St Sylvesters will look to bounce back from their opening round defeat to Clontarf when they host Na Fianna who are playing their first game of this year’s competition as they had a bye last week.
The other game in the group will also see another team looking to get their campaign on track with Thomas Davis looking to put last weeks heavy defeat to Foxrock Cabinteely behind them as they welcome the visit of Clontarf to Kiltipper Road.
They will have their work cut-out though as the visitors looked in sparking form last week in their win over St Sylvesters by 3-14 to 2-06.
Group 2 of the senior championship will see last years finalists Kilmacud Crokes aim to get this years campaign off to a winning start as they travel to Ringsend to take on Clanna Gael Fontenoy.
The home side suffered an opening round defeat by seven points to Ballyboden St Endas and another loss this evening would leave their championship hopes further dented.
Russell Park is the venue for the second game in the group with 2018 county finalists St Brigids hoping to secure their first win of the competition having lost a tense and tight battle with Fingallians in round 1 by 2-09 to 1-09.
Visitors Ballyboden St Endas will arrive in confident mood after their round 1 win over Clanna Gael Fontenoy by 3-10 to 0-12 and will prove difficult opposite for St Brigids in what could be the game of the round.
In Group 1 of the Intermediate championship Man O War will be eager to claim their first win at home against Cuala.
The home side were well beaten by Castleknock last week by 5-13 to 2-06 and face another tough task tonight against a visiting side who themselves enjoyed a comprehensive win in round 1.
Cuala hosted Skerries Harps last week and struck seven goals past the coastal side in a 7-13 to 2-06 win. A similar display from last seasons intermediate county finalists and it could be another long evening for Man O War.
Skerries Harps will host Castleknock in the other group game and similarly could find themselves in for a tough night against a free scoring Castleknock side who struck 5-13 against Man O War last Wednesday and will be in the mood to rack up another big score this evening.
Two sides looking to get back on track in their respective campaigns Clann Mhuire and Lucan Sarsfields meet tonight in The Naul.
Clann Mhuire suffered a derby defeat to St Maurs in round 1 by 6-06 to 1-06 but will hope the familiar surrounds of their home ground will be a catalyst to secure their first group points.
Lucan Sarsfields travel to The Naul on the back of a double score defeat to Parnells last Wednesday with the side from Coolock winning by 2-12 to 1-06 and will need a much improved performance and scoring return to take the points on offer this evening.
Ballinteer St Johns travelled to face St Judes in Group 1 last week and both sides played out a thrilling draw in Tymon North with the final score 4-09 to 3-12.
They will hope to build on that this week as they host Garda/Westmanstown Gaels in Marley Park.
The visitors suffered a heavy defeat at home in round 1 against Raheny by 3-23 to 1-10 and that nineteen point loss will be still fresh in the players minds as they face a difficult assignment again this evening. If they can keep it tighter tonight it will be a positive step in the right direction.
St Annes No 10 will be the venue for what could be the fixture of the night in the Junior A championship as Raheny host St Judes.
As stated above Raheny enjoyed a comprehensive win in round 1 by nineteen points against Garda/Westmanstown Gaels and are very capable of putting up another big score tonight especially on home turf and will be confident of making it two wins from two.
St Judes though are no pushovers and showed all their battling qualities in last weeks game against Ballinteer St Johns to secure a share of the spoils. They will need all of those qualities again tonight if they are to stifle a free scoring Raheny side with a keen eye on the knockout stages.
There are two intriguing games in Group 2 of the Junior A championship. Naomh Barrog are on home soil tonight against Ballyboden St Endas B.
Naomh Barrog travelled to Templeogue Synge Street last week and both sides played out an entertaining shootout which yielded seventeen scores for each side. But it was Barrog who claim the points on offer courtesy of seven goals on the night with the final score 7-10 to 3-14.
Their opponents tonight Ballyboden St Endas B will arrive to Pairc Barrog on the back of a heavy sixteen point defeat to O’Dwyers on a scoreline of 5-09 to 1-05.
And unless Boden can curb Barrog’s ability to find the back of the net, then they will suffer another heavy defeat this evening.
The other game in the group is between O’Dwyers and Templeogue Synge Street in Bremore Park.
O’Dwyers will be aiming to make it two wins from two on their home patch but this won’t be an easy fixture against a Templeogue side who will be smarting from last weeks loss and are well capable of claiming the points on offer.
This one could be the most evenly matched fixture of the evening and this one could be very close at the finish.
