We’ll have all the action this afternoon from Dublin’s last round game in this year’s Walsh Cup
Laois v Dublin
Sunday, January 6th 2019. 2:00pm
O’Moore Park, Portlaoise
The chance of a Semi Final slot in this year’s Walsh Cup is up for grabs today. Dublin will aim to go three for three in the competition. A draw will even be enough for the lads to join Galway, Kilkenny and Wexford in the last four.
Mattie Kenny’s tenure as senior hurling manager has seen the panel successfully and comfortably overcome the challenges of both Carlow and Offaly, and a victory over Laois will give them a clean sweep. The men from the O’Moore county got their campaign off to the perfect start with a win over Offaly on December 9th. But in Round 2 they were defeated by Carlow on home turf. They must win today by a massive margin and Carlow will have to lose to be in with a chance of qualifying.
It’s really Dublin’s to lose as their score difference is far superior to everyone else in the group.
There are plenty of changes to the Dublin side that beat Offaly in Round 2. Alan Nolan returns to the the goal in place of Sean Brennan. Eoghan O’Donnell makes his first start in the full-back line. James Madden and Daire Gray join O’Donnell in the back three. Sean Moran will step in for Chris Crummey at centre back. David Treacy and Caolan Conway will be rested with Jake Malone getting a start and John Hetherton moving to the half-back line. Former captain Liam Rushe returns to action at full forward with Eamonn Dillon and Donal Burke flanking him on either side.
