DUBSTV takes a look at the Dublin Senior Hurlers ahead of the Walsh Cup Campaign

With only days away from Mattie Kenny’s first competitive game in charge of the Dublin Senior Hurlers, DUBSTV caught up with Jake Malone and the senior squad at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown to find out how preperations were going for the Walsh Cup.

Dublin will take on Carlow and Offaly next week, and at the beginning of the new year will face Laois. Should they come out on top they’ll advance to the Semi Finals with Galway, Kilkenny and Wexford.

The task for Kenny has been built on strong foundations. Having only been in charge for one year, Pat Gilroy pulled the Senior Hurling set up by the boot straps and fans witnessed the old fighting spirit return, particularly during their Leinster Championship campaign this year. And with two AIB Senior Hurling Championships under his belt Mattie Kenny certainly has the CV to continue the journey.

Jake Malone tells DUBSTV that the lads are really looking forward to getting back to competitive action on Tuesday as they travel to Netwatch Cullen Park for their opener against Carlow.Every one is excited to have the former Cuala boos on board, and his reputation speak for itself. It won’t be long before everyone finds their feet. Jake admits that while being back training is great, there’s nothing like playing some competitive hurling and the boys can’t wait to get two games under their belts before Christmas.

Dublin’s first home tie will be against Offaly next Sunday afternoon in Parnell Park. And it will be a great chance for fans to see what Mattie has done in his short time as Dublin manager. And of course a perfect chance to see the Dublin hurlers before Christmas.
