A 59th minute score from Andy Hickey clinched the result In the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship

Leinster Minor Hurling - Kilkenny v Dublin

Kilkenny 0-15
Dublin 2-08

Nowlan Park, Kilkenny

Reigning Leinster Champions Dublin watched Kilkenny steal victory with an agonising point late in yesterday’s opening game of the Minor Hurling Championship. It leaves Dublin seeking results against Offaly and Wexford in their remaining round games if they want to avoid having to play a Quarter Final and qualify automatically for the last four.

The crown in Nowlan Park were treated a very entertaining hour of hurling despite the difficult weather conditions. Billy Drennan’s solid shooting got Kilkenny off to a fine start, but the cats were rocked by two first half Dublin goals, seeing them take control of the game.

Luke Swan again showed his eye for the target with a powerful strike from close range on 21 minutes. Two minutes later Ben McSweeney was on target again giving Dublin the advantage. Additional score from Brendan Scanlon saw his side go in at the break ahead by four on a 2-05 to 0-07 half time score.

The home side didn’t let the score affect their performance and dug deep from the beginning of the second half, with Billy Drennan again leading the way. Dublin crept ahead again late on from a Ben McSweeney converted free. But Kilkenny prevailed registering the final two scores from Peter McDonald and Andy Hickey.

Dublin face Offaly next weekend in Parnell Park, with Kilkenny heading to Bellefield to go head to head with Wexford. Wexford were victorious against Offaly in their opening round game on a 3-11 to 2-11 scoreline.
