Scoil Ui Chonaill Lift Senior B Hurling Title After Strong Second Half Performance
Scoil Uí Chonaill came from four points in arrears to finish victorious in this evening’s Dublin Senior B Hurling final. A dogged second half display saw them come back after trailing Thomas Davis by 0-08 to 0-04
Both sides will be part of next year’s Senior A Hurling competition. But Saturday truly belonged to Scoil.
Thomas Davis led by four points at the interval. But it was Scoil who emerged from the Parnell Park dressing room with an extra edge. They put in a much improved performance for the second half.
In the trickiest of conditions there was only one goal. That came in the eleventh minute of the half when Eoin McKay used both his feet to guide the ball through rough terrain in the Thomas Davis goalmouth and over he line. McKay had taken the first point of the half so the goal brought the score level on 1-05 to 0-08.
Kevin Ward pointed for Thomas Davis heading into the last quarter to give his side another slender lead. Robert Kennedy levelled again, but Ward scored again in the 48th to push Thomas Davis’ noses in front.
Sadly though it would be the last time Thomas Davis would lead as Scoil Ui Chonaill changed gear for the final ten minutes of action. Kennedy hit two points to move 1-08 to 0-10 in front. Another two saw Scoil lead by three.
Ward converted his final score for Thomas Davis, but Kennedy answered with a free of his own, injuring himself in the process. But it was enough, as the umpire raised the white flag, the referee blew the final whistle to record an historic victory for the Clontarf side.
