The action gets underway tonight in this years Go Ahead Senior Hurling Championship as we focus on Senior 1
No sooner have we waved off the Inter County Season for 2022, the action kick in tonight in the first of the Dublin Club Championships. We take a close look at the match ups from Round 1 of the Go Ahead Senior 1 Hurling Championship.
Group 1 in this year’s competition consists of Na Fianna, St Judes, Ballyboden St. Endas, St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh and Cuala, with Lucan Sarsfield, St. Vincents, Kilmacud Crokes, Craobh Chiarain and St. Brigids. Let’s take a look at the fixtures.
Senior 1 Hurling, Group 1
After losing out to Kilmacud Crokes in last year Dublin Senior Hurling Final Na Fianna mount their challenge once again, and their goal must be another appearance in the final. To get up and running they face St. Judes, who were Na Fianna’s Quarter Final opponents last year. Only three points seperated the side in that last 8 clash.
Beaten by Cuala in last year’s Quarter Finals, Ballyboden St. Endas go head to head with St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh. After going three for three in their Group last year, Boden were cut off by the former Champs and will want to push on and contest the latter stages. Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh were runners up to Ballyboden in the group stages last and sadly met eventually winners Kilmacud Crokes in their knock out opener.
Cuala get their Bye in the opening round and will be waiting in the wings to face Plunketts in Round 2 this Saturday evening.

Senior 1 Hurling, Group 2
O’Toole Park will host both games in the Group 2 competition over tonight and tomorrow night. And tonight beaten Semi Finalists from year Lucan Sarsfield will get their campaignup and running facing the Marino men St. Vincents.
Lucan were Group 2 winners last year and saw off Craobh Chiaran in their Quarter Final tie before being dumped out. St. Vincents, who were in the same group, didn’t make the knock out stages for the first time in a while. So they’ll be looking for a huge improvement in what will be a tricky opener.
Tomorrow night, reigning Senior 1 Champions Kilmacud Crokes start their route to retain the title when they entertain Craobh Chiarain at the Crumlin venue. Chiarains finished behind Na Fianna in Group 1 last year, qualifying for the Quarter Finals. But sadly that’s as far as the Donnycarney side got to as they lost out on a Semi Final slot from a defeat to Lucan. They’ll feel they can build on last year though and will be hoping to challenge the champions tomorrow night.
St. Brigids sit out the first round action and will take on St. Vincents this Saturday in Parnell Park.
