Mattie Kenny’s side scored three first half goals to see off the challenge of Carlow in the Walsh Cup

Eamonn Dillon (2) and Donal Burke found the net early in today’s hurling Walsh Cup assignment to secure a second Round Robin win over Carlow. The result sets the Dubs up nicely as they look forward to welcoming Laois to Parnell Park this Thursday for the last of their three round games.

Mattie Kenny’s side led by 3-08 to 0-12 at the interval. Eamonn Dillon raising two green flags before Donal Burke secured a third. The boys in blue went onto hit Carlow for seven unanswered scores after the break to put them 3-15 to 0-12 clear. The returning Mark Schutte bagged two of those seven, as did Lorcan McMullan and Oisin O’Rorke before Fergal Whitely finished the run putting the Dubs out of sight of their opponents.

Carlow were 0-03 to 0-01 up at the beginning of the game before Dillon rifled two quick goals. And by the 11th minute Dublin were 2-01 to 0-03 in front. another five points were added by the 20th minute. Davy Keogh, two frees from Paul Ryan, one from newcomer Andrew Dunphy and a score from Schutte saw the home side hit 2-05 unanswered.

But Carlow’s response was emphatic, hitting eight scores of their own to silence Dublin and bring the deficit to 2-06 to 0-11. Dublin though had some more in the tank before the half time whistle, with Mark Schutte adding a score, Donal Burke getting his goal and Oisin O’Rorke adding their eight point of the session.
