Dub Stars 1-24
Dublin 0-21
The sizeable crowd in attendance last Saturday in St Vincent’s GAA club for the annual Dublin Bus/Herald Dub Stars exhibition games were treated to a Festive cracker of a Hurling game with the Dub Stars coming out on top.
For the time of the year it was a highly competitive and evenly contested game with plenty of players from both sides impressing in front of new Dublin Senior Hurling manager Pat Gilroy.
An early goal nine minutes into the first half from Alan Moore helped the Dub Stars take a one point lead into the break with the score 1-11 to 0-13.
There was little between the two sides throughout in a game that was played at a fast pace and featured a host of excellently taken scores.
Paul Winters who finished with 0-06 to his name, Alan Moore, Gavin King, Cian McBride and Alex Quinn were some who impressed for the Dub Stars.
For Dublin, Fionn O’Rian Broin who scored 0-06, Cillian Costello, Robbie Mahon, Eoghan Smyth and Paul Crummey were among the standout performers.
With none of the Cuala contingent involved due to their preparations for their All Ireland semi final, it was the perfect opportunity for others to put their hands up for selection for the upcoming Walsh Cup and League campaign and Pat Gilroy will have been impressed by what he witnessed and will have plenty to ponder selection wise over the next few days.
