A Saturday evening jaunt to Netwatch Cullen Park is on the cards this weekend in the National Hurling League
Carlow v Dublin
Saturday, February 15th. 5:00pm
Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow
After 2 Rounds in this year’s Allianz National Hurling League, Mattie Kenny’s Senior Hurler sit in fourth position in the Division 1 Group B table. Kilkenny, Clare and Wexford sit above them with Laois and this weekend’s opponents Carlow propping them up.
It’s the second meeting of these two sides in the space of five weeks, but there’s a little more than the Walsh Cup at stake this time around. Dublin ran out 3-20 to 0-18 victors in that game. The win was aided by three first half goals and an early scoring surge in the second half, leaving too much for Carlow to do to make ground.
Eamonn Dillon hit the net twice with Donal Burke bagging the other goal. At half time the led 3-08 to 0-12, and followed that with seven unanswered scores to bring their tally to 3-15. Mark Schutte Oisin O’Rorke and Lorcan McMullan bagged two of those scores each, with Fergal Whitely adding the other.
No one is expecting this weekend to be as easy but league points are important. And this is a perfect opportunity to secure another two. Their opening display against Kilkenny was disappointing. But Dublin put that right with a much improved performance in their 4-18 to 2-17 win over at the beginning of the month.
Eamonn Dillon, Oisin O’Rorke, Davy Keogh and Ronan Hayes did the damage in front of goal. O’Rorke, Keogh, Sean Moran, Donal Burke, John Hetherton and Rian McBride all pitched in to take Dublin’s point tally in the day to 18.
Only three scores seperate the sides at half time with the score at 1-11 to 1-08. But Dublin rallied in the second with three goals and another seven points to get over the line.
