Mattie Kenny’s Dublin Senior Hurlers Kick off the 2022 season this Sunday against Antrim in the Walsh Cup
The countdown is well and truly on as Inter County action for 2022 kicks of for Dublin teams this weekend. And after the Senior Footballer get up and running in the O’Byrne Cup on Saturday, the Senior Hurling panel will start their Walsh Cup pre-season competition at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.
After only picking up 2 wins in 5 games in last year’s National Hurling League, Mattie Kenny’s men upped the ante in the 2021 Championship. After an impressive 3-31 to 0-22 over Antrim in the Quarter Finals, Dublin “showed up” in the last four. Seeing off a polished Galway they advance to a Leinster Final clash with Kilkenny. But a COVID ravaged panel meant an uphill struggle for the Dubs on July 17th. While Kenny’s men really toughed it out and never gave up it was Kilkenny who came through as provincial winners.
Their fate was sealed by Cork in an All Ireland Quarter Final, but Dublin will have been happier at how they finished the year compared to how it began.
Sunday sees Mattie Kenny take the reins for another year, starting their Walsh Cup with a ome tie against Antrim, who’ll they also be facing in the league around mid-February. In Round 2 they’ll welcome Galway to Parnell Park before facing Offaly in the final round.
