After a disappointing draw against Roscommon in last week’s All Ireland Senior Football opener, Dessie Farrell’s Dublin Football panel came away from Nowlan Park this evening with a comfortable 0-22 to 0-13 victory over Kildare to strengthen their position in Group 3 of the All Ireland Series. And it takes some pressure off before facing Sligo in theor final round game.

Colm Basquel stood out for the Dubs today with a return of 0-05. And Dublin certainly performed better today than their last two encounters against Kildare this year.

Despite Kildare hitting two points on the bounce at the beginning of the second half, they found themselves trailing by 0-06 as the game clock hit the 47th minute. And they failed to score a point from play until additional time at the end of the game.

Dublin held their own despite being without players like Ciaran Kilenny and Paul Mannion. And they held a confident 0-13 to 0-08 lead at the break. Con O’Callaghan returned to form as the sides battled back and forth in the opening quarter. Dublin then hit 0-06 unanswered over a 6 minute period with Kildare struggling to get out of their own half. Basquel caused their defence some serious problems, registering the last 2 of the 6 score salvo.

While Kildare struck back with three of their own, it was Dublin finishing the half stronger thanks to a Dean Rock converted free and a fourth score from the boot of Con O’Callaghan.

One Change To Dublin Starters For Crucial Kildare Clash

The Dublin Senior Footballers will look to bounce back from disappointing draw with Roscommon last week

Dublin Senior Football Panel - All Ireland versus Kildare

Kildare v Dublin
All Ireland Senior Football Championship Round 2
Saturday, June 3rd. 5:00pm
UPMC Nowlan Park, Kilkenny

Dublin Football Supporters will be Kilkenny bound tomorrow afternoon as Dessie Farrell’s men travel for the away leg of this year’s All Ireland Senior Football Championship Round Series. And with St. Conleth’s Park unavailable, Kildare have chosen Nowlan Park, the home of hurling, as their home venue for what will be an important clash for both sides involved.

Both Kildare and Dublin played out agonising draws in their opening fixtures. Kildare were held to a 0-14 a piece tie against Sligo, while Dublin and Roscommon fought to the final whistle in a 1-11 to 0-14 drawn game. If anything it means this Group 3 competitionwill go down to the wire regardless of what happens tomorrow. But for Dessie Farrell a win is the only acceptable result from tomorrow fixture if Dublin are to try and regain their much loved Sam Maguire Cup.

This morning the Dublin manager named his panel for tomorrow’s Round 2 clash. And he’s made one change to the team that started against Roscommon last week. Cian Murphy comes in to replace David Byrne at Corner Back.

STARS from the competing counties gathered at Croke Park today (Monday May 29) to officially launch the 2023 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Championships.

All roads lead to Croke Park on Sunday August 13, which will be an historic occasion to mark the 50th TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship Final.

The captains of the 1974 All-Ireland Senior Final teams – Tipperary’s Kitty Ryan-Savage and Offaly’s Agnes Gorman – joined current players at Croke Park today to launch the 2023 campaign.

The very first All-Ireland Senior Final, won by Tipperary, was played in Durrow, county Laois, in 1974.

To acknowledge this, TG4’s Peil na mBan Beo lead anchor Máire Ní Bhraonáin was joined at Durrow Castle recently by Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh (Kerry), Maria Reilly (Mayo), Aimee Mackin (Armagh) and Niamh O’Sullivan, from TG4 All-Ireland Senior champions Meath, for a promotional photoshoot.

Intermediate representatives Síofra Ní Chonaill (Clare) and Amy Hamill (Monaghan) were also present, alongside Junior players Claire Dunne (Sligo) and Ruth Bermingham (Carlow), to help launch the 2023 TG4 All-Ireland Championships.

At Croke Park today, a host of leading players were also present as the countdown to what promises to be a spectacular season of Championship football continues.

TG4 have been title sponsors of the All-Ireland Ladies Football Championships since 2001 and the partnership has evolved into one of the most recognised and innovative in world sport.

In 2022, TG4 announced a five-year extension of their sponsorship of the All-Ireland Ladies Football inter-county championships, with this deal set to last until the conclusion of the 2027 season.

With the 2023 TG4 Provincial Championships coming to an end yesterday, the groups for the All-Ireland Senior and Intermediate Championships have been populated.

At Senior level, defending champions Meath, aiming for a third successive TG4 All-Ireland Senior title, will look to regroup after losing the Leinster Final to Dublin, and the Royal County now find themselves alongside Ulster champions Donegal, and Waterford, in Group B of the All-Ireland series.

Group A features Connacht champions Mayo, Ulster runners-up Armagh, and Laois, while Leinster champions Dublin, Lidl National League Division 1 champions Kerry, who lost to Cork in yesterday’s Munster Final, and Cavan will play in Group C.

Group D is made up of Munster champions Cork, Connacht runners-up Galway, and Tipperary.

In the Intermediate Championship, 2021 and 2022 All-ireland Finalists Wexford lost to Kildare in yesterday’s Leinster Final, and are pitted with Connacht champions Roscommon, and Monaghan, in Group C.

Kildare are in Group A with Leitrim and Louth, with Clare, Tyrone, Offaly and Wexford in a four-team Group B.

In Group D, newly-crowned Ulster Intermediate champions Antrim, who were the 2022 TG4 All-Ireland Junior winners, will battle it out with Longford and Westmeath.

In the Senior and Intermediate Championships, two teams will emerge from each group to contest the quarter-finals, with the top two teams in each of the Junior groups progressing to the semi-finals.

The 2023 TG4 All-Ireland Championships will commence over the weekend of June 10/11, with five Intermediate fixtures down for decision.

The TG4 Senior Championship is due to get underway on Saturday June 17, with the Junior Championship roaring into life on Sunday June 18.

TG4 and the LGFA will shortly reveal details of another bumper TV schedule which will run until the conclusion of the Championships at Croke Park on Sunday August 13.

The LGFA and TG4 are also delighted to confirm that the 2023 TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship semi-finals will be played as a double-header at Semple Stadium in Thurles, county Tipperary, on Saturday July 29.

The 50th year of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, which was founded in Thurles on July 18, 1974, will officially commence on July 18, 2023.

The 2023 TG4 All-Ireland Finals will be staged as a triple-header once again at Croke Park on Sunday August 13, with the Junior Final at 11.45am, followed by the Intermediate decider at 1.45pm and the Senior Final at 4pm.

Peil na mBan Beo will be available to audiences globally on the TG4 Player at https://www.tg4.ie/en/player/watch-live/home/ and on the TG4 Mobile and Smart TV App.

Former Galway star Máire Ní Bhraonáin will lead TG4’s Peil na mBan Beo coverage once again for the forthcoming Championship season. The commentary team will be headed up by Brian Tyers.

They will be joined by expert panellists including former Cork TG4 All-Ireland Championship winners Rena Buckley and Rhóna Ní Bhuachalla, ex-Waterford ace Michelle Ryan, Dublin All-Ireland winners Sorcha Furlong and Sinéad Finnegan, Wicklow’s Niamh Russell and current Donegal player, Emer Gallagher.

TG4’s coverage will be produced by Waterford-based production company, Nemeton TV.

The LGFA and TG4 are also delighted to confirm that all other games that are not being televised in the TG4 All-Ireland Championships will be available to view via the LGFA’s live-streaming service. Visit https://page.inplayer.com/lgfaseason2023/ for full details.

Speaking on behalf of TG4, Director General Alan Esslemont said: “Agus muid ag tús comórtais eile Craoibhe, tá TG4 thar a bheith bródúil as ár gcomhpháirtíocht leis an LGFA mar urra agus mar chraoltóir ar Chraobhacha na hÉireann i bPeil na mBan.

“Samhradh stairiúil atá romhainn agus muid ag tabhairt aghaidh ar an 50ú Cluiche Ceannais Sinsir agus is ábhar sásaimh agus bróid dúinn go raibh baint thábhachtach ag TG4 leis an dul chun cinn atá á dhéanamh ag an spórt iontach seo.

“There is so much to look forward to in this year’s TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Championships at all levels – Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

“The quality of inter-county football increases every year, as does the fierce rivalry and, from the evidence of this year’s Lidl National Leagues, we can expect one of the most open and competitive Senior Championships ever.

“The prize this year is the truly momentous and historic honour of becoming the winners of the 50th Senior All-Ireland Championship Final.

“My admiration for the women and men who have built the LGFA knows no bounds. It is truly the key institution of women’s sport in Ireland and has been a pioneering leader in the long march towards parity of esteem with male sport.

“We see some progress in this direction but deep-rooted biases are always difficult to shift.

“As a minority language broadcaster, I believe that TG4 understands that struggle for some kind of societal equality and the solidarity between the two organisations is very strong.

“That solidarity is very much founded on the strength of the partnership relationship which the LGFA has created with TG4 and the truly historic role which Chief Executive, Helen O’ Rourke, has played in building and maintaining that partnership.

“I also salute Uachtarán Mícheál Naughton, all the fantastic staff at the LGFA and everyone in club, county, provincial and national management structures who are driving Peil na mBan forward towards its 50th Senior Final and into its 50th year.

“Ba mhaith liom buíochas freisin a ghlacadh le gach duine i TG4 agus i Nemeton as a saothar seachtainiúil ag cur clúdach spóirt den chead scoth ar fáil ar TG4 agus guím gach rath ar na foirne agus a lucht leanta a bheidh páirteach i gCraobhacha TG4 2023.”

Mícheál Naughton, President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, commented: “We’ve already been treated to some spectacular action throughout the Lidl National Leagues and the TG4 Provincial Championships – and now it’s almost time for the 2023 TG4 All-Ireland Championships to get underway.

“As we prepare to enter the 50th year of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, August 13 at Croke Park will be an historic day, as we will crown our All-Ireland Senior champions for a 50th time.

“There have been some outstanding moments of history throughout the previous 49 Senior Championship campaigns and countless legends created.

“As we prepare for our 50th Senior Championship season, we can look ahead to what looks like a wide-open race, with a number of contenders starting the TG4 All-Ireland series with a genuine sense that they can finish it with the Brendan Martin Cup.

“We’re also looking forward to brilliant Football in the Intermediate and Junior Championships, with the teams in these competitions battling it out for the national silverware on offer and the chance to compete at a higher Championship grade.

“Along every step of the way, TG4 will be with us, as they have been since 2001. TG4’s commitment and dedication to Ladies Gaelic Football has helped to elevate our sport to new heights and it’s a partnership that continues to grow and evolve.

“We were delighted to sign a long-term extension of our partnership in 2022, which will take us up to the conclusion of the 2027 season.

“Today, we are delighted to have the respective team captains, Kitty Ryan-Savage from Tipperary and Offaly’s Agnes Gorman, with us from that very first Senior Final in 1974.

“Ladies Gaelic Football has enjoyed tremendous growth since then and we’re anticipating bumper attendances at the various venues along the road to Croke Park in August.

“Once again, and as we make our way through the Championships, we’re proud to ensure that we can cater for a worldwide audience, via TG4 and also on our live-streaming portal.

“Fans of Ladies Gaelic Football won’t miss a minute of the action, with our 2023 TG4 All-Ireland Junior, Intermediate and Senior Champions set to be crowned on August 13. Many thanks to TG4 Director General Alan Esslemont, Head of Sport, Rónán Ó Coisdealbha and the entire TG4 team for their continued support of Ladies Gaelic Football.

“As always, we need the help of our clubs and counties to ensure that our inter-county players receive the support in the stands and from the terraces that they richly deserve throughout the Championship season.”

Offaly 1-08 Dublin 6-15
Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football Semi Final
Glenisk O’Connor Park, Tullamore

Dublin’s minor footballers stormed into the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football Championship final with an impressive 6-15 to 1-08 triumph over Offaly. The first half set the tone as Dublin netted four goals, establishing a commanding lead. Paddy Curry opened the scoring within seconds, followed by Harry Curley’s precise finish. Cian Bracken managed to pull one back for Offaly, but Dublin’s Noah Byrne and Curry struck again before halftime, making it 4-04 to 1-02.

Dublin continued their dominance in the second half. Senan Ryan and Curley added to the goal tally, while Dublin’s goalkeeper Cillian Murray, made a fantastic save to deny Offaly from the penalty spot. Lenny Cahill and Shane Mullarkey contributed points as Dublin held firm.

At full time, the score stood at Dublin 6-15 Offaly 1-8. The victory secured Dublin’s spot in the final against neighbours Kildare, who narrowly edged Meath in the other semi-final.

Saturday, May 27th 2023
Dublin 1-04 Kilkenny 4-13
Glen Dimplex Intermediate Camogie Championship
TU Dublin, Blanchardstown

Dublin faced Kilkenny in the Glen Dimplex Intermediate Camogie championship, a game defined by two contrasting halves. At halftime, Dublin trailed by just one point on a 1-04 to 1-03 scoreline. A Meabh Hicks goal and Robyn Buckley points had Dublin challenging on the scoreboard, while Sarah Barcoe found the net for Kilkenny.

The second half however saw a complete shift in momentum. Kilkenny raised their intensity and dominated the game, leaving Dublin struggling to respond. Dublin could only manage a single point from a Grainne Skelton free, while Kilkenny scored an unanswered 3-09, showcasing their dominance.

Afton Grace and Sarah Barcoe were key contributors with goals, and Ellen Gunner added another for Kilkenny. Laura Greene (2), Tara Ronan, Barcoe, Therese Donnelly, and Grace, with a converted free, all made significant scoring contributions. The final score stood at Dublin 1-04 Kilkenny 4-13, highlighting Kilkenny’s comprehensive victory in the opening round of the All Ireland Championship. It leaves Dublin with all to do as they face Cork and Galway in theor remaining Round Robin fixtures.

Sunday, May 28th 2023
Dublin 2-22 Galway 1-25
Leinster Senior Hurling Champioship Round 5
Croke Park, Dublin

In an enthralling clash at Croke Park, Dublin and Galway played out a dramatic draw to end the Round Robin phase of the Leinster Hurling Championhip and see Galway book a spot in the provincial Final. Daithi Burke proved pivotal, scoring a goal in the 52nd minute.
The Dubs had led comfortably at half-time, with a 10-point advantage (2-16 to 0-12). But Galway staged a remarkable comeback, erasing the deficit and leveling the scores in the 69th minute.

Evan Niland played a crucial role for Galway, contributing 10 points throughout the game. Donal Burke’s late free ensured the draw for Dublin. But it wasn’t enough for Micheál Donoghue’s men to advance to the decider..

Despite Dublin’s strong first half, Galway’s resurgence and improved performance in the second half secured their place in the Leinster final alongside Kilkenny. The draw means Dublin finished third in the table and will advance to an All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final.

Dublin 1-11 Roscommon 0-14
All Ireland Senior Football Championship Round 1
Croke Park, Dublin

Roscommon will have come away from Croke Park yesterday the happier as they held a below par Dublin to a 1-11 to 0-14 draw in this year’s All Ireland Senior Football opening round.

At half-time, The Rossies held a five-point advantage, but Dublin launched a spirited comeback in the second half, culminating in a crucial goal from John Small albeit pushed over the line.

But it was Roscommon who never stopped fighting, led by Ciaráin Murtagh’s vital scores. Cormac Costello contributed with important scores with the game reaching a nail-biting conclusion as substitute Conor Cox made his mark for Roscommon, scoring a crucial free and winning another, which Donie Smith converted.

In the end, neither team could clinch the win, as Dean Rock’s missed free denied Dublin a victory. It again poses more questions for Dublin supporters expecting their side to kick on in the competition, and again showing inconsistencies on a worrying scale.

Dublin 2-09 Meath 0-09
TG4 Leinster Senior Ladies Football Final
Laois Hire O’Moore Park, Portlaoise

Dublin Ladies clinched their 10th consecutive Leinster Senior Championship title with a six-point victory over Meath at Laois Hire O’Moore Park. Kate Sullivan, the star of the game, scored goals in either half to help her side secure the win. Despite Emma Duggan’s impressive tally of 0-7 for Meath, they couldn’t outdo Dublin’s dominance.

Jodi Egan scored an early point for the reigning champions, but Meath responded with three consecutive points from Duggan and Vikki Wall. Dublin regained the lead when Sullivan netted a goal from an Orlagh Nolan delivery and tthe teams exchanged points through frees, with the first half ending level at 1-2 to 0-5.

Dublin started the second half strongly, with Jennifer Dunne scoring immediately after the throw-in. However, Meath quickly equalized with a free. But The Dubs then took control, scoring three points in quick succession. Duggan responded with another free, but the game’s turning point came on the 54th minute when Sullivan scored her second goal, assisted by Dunne and Hannah Tyrrell.

Despite Meath’s efforts, Dublin held on for the win. Martha Byrne sealed the victory with a late point, securing a successful day for Dublin. The win sees Dublin continue their dominant run in the Leinster Senior Championship andprovided a good test ahead of the TG4 Senior Championship.

Dublin 2-09

Meath 0-09

By Daire Walsh

Kate Sullivan found the net in both halves as Dublin secured a 10th successive TG4 Leinster Senior Championship with a six-point win over Meath at Laois Hire O’Moore Park.

Following on from a Lidl National Football League Division 1 success at DCU St Clare’s at the beginning of the year — and a narrow victory against them at Pairc Tailteann in the round robin phase of this competition — Dublin have now defeated the reigning TG4 All-Ireland SFC champions on three occasions in 2023.

Emma Duggan flew the flag for the Royals with a 0-7 tally, but they ultimately fell short in their quest for a first senior provincial crown since 2000.

A rematch of last year’s Leinster SFC showpiece at Croke Park, Dublin opened the scoring with a third-minute point from Jodi Egan only for Brendan Martin Cup holders Meath to fired back with three points on the bounce from Dunboyne club-mates Duggan (two) and Vikki Wall.

There was a ferocious pace to the game during the early exchanges and the lead once again changed hands when Kate Sullivan palmed an Orlagh Nolan delivery to the net on nine minutes.

The in-form Duggan and Dublin’s Hannah Tyrrell swapped pointed frees either side of the first-quarter mark, but the game became extremely cagey as it wore on with both defences effectively shutting down the avenues of attack for their opponents.

Nonetheless, Meath’s influential inside forward Niamh O’Sullivan did pop up with a well-taken point at the very end of the opening half to leave the teams on level terms (1-2 to 0-5) at the midway stage.

While Dublin got up and running on the resumption with a Jennifer Dunne score straight from the throw-in, this was immediately cancelled out by another Duggan free.

Yet Dublin were beginning to get on top around the middle third and eventually developed further momentum with three points in as many minutes from Egan (two) and Caoimhe O’Connor.

Duggan broke this scoring sequence with her third free of the tie, before the decisive moment arrived on 54 minutes. After Jennifer Dunne superbly gathered an Abby Shiels kick-out, she delivered an accurate pass towards the unmarked Tyrrell.

She swiftly picked out the raiding Sullivan, who hammered the ball beyond the reach of Royal custodian Monica McGuirk.

The tireless Duggan did conjure a 0-2 salvo for Meath in the closing minutes, but a point from defender Martha Byrne rounded off a successful day at the office for Dublin.

Leinster Senior Ladies Football Final – Live Updates

We’ll take the trip to O’Moore Park this afternoon as the Dublin Ladies look to retain their Leinster Crown

Dublin v Meath - Leinster LGFA Senior Final

Dublin v Meath
Leinster Senior Ladies Football Final
Sunday, May 28th. 4:15pm
Laois Hire O’Moore Park, Portlaoise

In a repeat of last year’s Leinster Ladies Football decider, Dublin and Meath will once again do battle in what has become a rivalry for the ages. Mick Bohan’s side are looking to make it three win from three over their provincial neighbours this year. And more importantly keep a tight grip on the Leinster Crown for another year.

Dublin have secured a league and provincial win over Meath so far this season. In January they saw off Meath on a 1-11 to 0-08 scoreline in the LIDL National Football League. And a few weeks ago they left Pairc Tailteann with a narrow 1-06 to 0-07 victory in the bag after a moe than physical encounter. But a win today would see Dublin secure a 10th conesecutive Leinster title, their 14th in 15 seasons.

Meath will be out to stop Dublin’s reign ahead of what will be another exciting All Ireland Series.

Kilkenny Hit Four Goals Past Dublin In All Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship Win

0

Dublin looked well in contention at half-time of todays All Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship game but Kilkenny dominated the second half to run out comfortable winners

Action from the All Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship game between Dublin and Kilkenny

Dublin 1-04

Kilkenny 4-13

It was certainly a tale of two halves for Dublin this afternoon in their All Ireland Intermediate Camogie championship encounter with Kilkenny.

After a keenly contested and tight opening half Dublin found themselves well in the hunt trailing by just a single point at the break.

But in the second half Kilkenny raised their intensity, aggression and pace levels and completely dominated the rest of the game with Dublin unable to stem the almost one way traffic.

Dublin started the game brightly and raced into a four point lead early in the game thanks to an excellent finish to the net by Meabh Hicks in the fifth minute and a Robyn Buckley converted free.

The sides though were level by the fourteenth minute, Caroline Kennedy got Kilkenny up and running on tue scoring front with a point in the eight minute and six minutes later player of the match Sarah Barcoe found the back of the net after some poor defensive play from Dublin.

Afton Grace gave Kilkenny the lead for the first time in game with a fine point. Ten minutes from the break it was all square again with Dublin’s Grainne Skelton knocking over a free.

Grace and Skelton traded fees as the game headed towards half-time but Sarah Barcoe grabbed a point from play just before the short whistle to leave the score at the break 1-04 to 1-03 in Kilkenny’s favour.

Dublin drew level four minutes after the break from a Grainne Skelton free but that was to prove to be the only score Dublin could muster for the rest of the game.

Kilkenny went on to dominate possession for the rest of the half and made it count scoring an unanswered 3-09 to run out very comfortable winners.

A point from play from Sarah Barcoe was sandwiched between two successful Afton Grace frees to put Kilkenny three in front but the Dubs were still not out of the game.

But from the midway point the of the second half Kilkenny hit the afterburners, two quick goals from Afton Grace and Sarah Barcoe put The Cats in full control and they drove on from there adding a fourth goal from Ellen Gunner and points from Laura Greene (2), Tara Ronan, Sarah Barcoe, Therese Donnelly and a converted free from Afton Grace to claim an eighteen point win.

Scorers – Dublin – Meabh Hicks 1-00, Grainne Skelton 0-03 (3f), Robyn Buckley 0-01 (1f) – Kilkenny – Sarah Barcoe 2-03, Afton Grace 1-05 (4f), Ellen Gunner 1-00, Laura Greene 0-02, Caroline Kennedy 0-01, Tara Ronan 0-01.

Dublin: Lauryn Campbell, Caoimhe Walshe, Shauna McCarthy, Caoimhe Tierney, Sarah Power, Nicola Cotter, Robyn Buckley, Emily Adderley, Aoife Deegan, Grainne Skelton, Joye Atkinson, Ciara Murphy, Meabh Hicks, Grace Shanahan, Eile O’Ceallaigh.

Dublin Substitions: Hazel Austin for Caoimhe Walshe (HT), Aoibhean Stokes for Eile O’Ceallaigh (43), Nina Brennan for Joye Atkinson (58), Cara Feeney for Shauna McCarthy (60), Lynn McMahon Keegan for Grace Shanahan (65).

Kilkenny: Cliona Murphy, Niamh Leahy, Jenni O’Dea, Jane Cass, Niamh Phelan, Roisin Phelan, Hannah Scott, Laura Greene, Aoife Cantwell, Danielle Quigley, Sarah Barcoe, Emma Mulhall, Therese Donnelly, Caroline Kennedy, Afton Grace.

Kilkenny Substitions: Katie Byrne for Jane Cass (Blood Sub 33-37), Ellen Gunner for Caroline Kennedy (43), Mairead Kennedy for Aoife Cantwell (47), Keara Ryan for Emma Mulhall (53), Tara Ronan for Danielle Quigley (55).

TG4 Junior Championship Final

Down v Fermanagh; Moy Tír na nÓg, 2pm

This Junior Final between Down and Fermanagh promises to be an entertaining affair – and could go either way.

Both sides will be among the front-runners for TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship glory in August – but the opportunity to lift provincial silverware now presents itself.

Thoughts will turn to the All-Ireland series after this one, with Down and Fermanagh in separate groups for the summer campaign.

This may not be the last time that these two teams see each other in 2023 – and they drew in the round-robin phase of the Ulster Championship.

Leinster

TG4 Junior Championship Final

Carlow v Kilkenny; Laois Hire O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, 12pm

There will be a new name on the Gerry Browne Cup on Sunday, for the first time since 2019.

Louth won the 2019 title before the Covid Pandemic stopped the Championships in 2020 and 2021 – and there were insufficient teams in 2022.

Carlow have played some championship football at Intermediate level over the last number of weeks to whet their appetite for Sunday’s final and while they were competitive, they were beaten in their three games against Kildare, Wexford and Longford.

For Kilkenny, it is a first outing since their last Lidl National League game, which ended in defeat to Wicklow in Division 4.

Ace attacker Rachel Sawyer returns to the starting line-up for Carlow, with Jenny Sawyer making way, while Anne Roche returns to her full-back role in place of Oonagh Fitzpatrick.

The Kilkenny management have shuffled up their pack and present a very different panel to that which competed in the Lidl National League.

Captained by Sarah Smith from Kilkenny City, the team will be hoping to reignite their season starting with a Junior title this Sunday.

Carlow: N Hanley; A Carroll, A Roche, M Doyle; R Bermingham, N Murphy, S McCullagh; E Hayden, R Bailey; A Hanley, S Doyle, E Molloy; R Sawyer, C Ní Shé, S Hayden.

Kilkenny: N Sheehy; A Galwey, A Egan, E Collins; S O’Gorman, E Coady, S Smith (C); E McCarthy, H Moore; S Kerr, K Furlong, C Moore; L Phelan, K Ryan, T McGrath.

TG4 Intermediate Championship Final

Kildare v Wexford; Laois Hire O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, 2pm

Reigning champions Kildare will look to make it back-to-back Leinster titles against Wexford – in what will be repeat of the 2022 decider.

Kildare won 3-7 to 1-7 last year and were 5-8 to 2-9 winners when the sides met in the group stages of this year’s competition.

Kildare were comprehensive winners against Louth in last weekend’s semi-final, as Wexford came from behind against Westmeath to book their place in the Final.

Kildare will go into Sunday’s clash brimming with confidence and with a trophy already secured this season, following victory in the Lidl NFL Division 3 Final, they have every reason to be.

Wexford, however, will relish the underdogs tag and will aim to spring a surprise and take their first Leinster IFC title since 2019.

Kildare manager Diane O’Hora and Wexford joint-bosses Lizzy Kent & John Nolan have named unchanged sides from their respective semi-final victories, with both sides fancying their chances of silverware.

Kildare: Mary Hulgraine; L Burke, L Lenehan, A Clifford; L Gilbert, R Sergeant, S Munnelly; G Clifford (C), A Rattigan; C Sullivan, N Dooley, R Byrne; E Dowling, T Duggan, L Curran.

Wexford: L Moore; A Halligan, S Murphy, K English; K Tomkins, R Murphy (C), S Harding Kenny; A Walsh, C Banville; B McDonald, C Murray, C Donnelly; C Foxe, A Murphy, C Ní Nualláin.

TG4 Senior Championship Final

Dublin v Meath; Laois Hire O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, 4.15pm

For a second year in a row, heavyweights Dublin and Meath will meet in the TG4 Leinster SFC Final.

Dublin have the upper hand so far this season, with a 1-11 to 0-8 victory back in January in the Lidl National League, and a narrow 1-6 to 0-7 win back in April in the opening round of this year’s Leinster Championship. The scene is set for another epic clash between the neighbours.

That opening round victory, coupled with victory against Laois, booked Dublin’s place in Sunday’s Final and they will be keen to continue their tradition of Leinster SFC titles.

A win on Sunday would hand the Sky Blues a tenth successive provincial title and their 14th in 15 seasons (Laois were victors against Meath in 2011).

While Meath lost out to Dublin in round one, they defeated Laois in round three by 0-15 to 0-5. After a shaky opening half, and competing against the elements, Meath upped the gears and ran out comfortable winners.

Meath’s remarkable rise through the ranks is by now well-documented and while they have won back to back TG4 All-Ireland SFC titles in 2021 and 2022, they have not lifted the Mary Ramsbottom Cup since 2000.

The Royals will be eager to make amends, ahead of what is sure to be another exciting All-Ireland campaign.

Orlagh Nolan drops back to her more familiar position in the half-back line, while Ellen Gribben, Kate Sullivan, Jennifer Dunne and Lauren Magee start ahead of Emma Strappe, Orla Martin, Sinéad Wylde and Faye O’Connell Bell, as Mick Bohan shuffles his pack for Sunday’s decider.

Orlagh Lally, who was a late replacement for Meadhbh Byrne against Laois, is named to start. Davy Nelson opts for the same side as they aim to defeat Dublin for the first time this season and secure the Mary Ramsbottom Cup for the first time in 23 years.

Dublin: A Shiels; N Crowley, L Caffrey, M Byrne; O Nolan, A Kane, E Gribben; J Dunne, L Magee; C O’Connor, C Coffey, E O’Dowd; H Tyrrell, C Rowe (C), K Sullivan.

Meath: M McGuirk; Á Sheridan, M.K. Lynch, K Newe; N Gallogly, S Ennis (C), A Cleary; M O’Shaughnessy, A Minogue; M Thynne, V Wall, E Duggan; O Lally, S Grimes, N O’Sullivan.

Munster

Senior B Final

Limerick v Clare; Mallow, 1pm

The Senior B Final between Limerick and Clare is the curtain-raiser on Sunday ahead of the Cork-Kerry Senior A clash.

Limerick will play in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship this summer, with Clare operating in the Intermediate ranks.

The Munster Senior B competition has provided both counties with valuable game time ahead of their respective All-Ireland campaigns – and now the chance to claim silverware has arrived for the neighbours.

Limerick: C Bateman; F Bradshaw, Y Lee, M MacNamara; G Lee, L Walsh, L Ryan; R Ambrose (capt.), C O’Meara; D Murphy, C Mee, C McGrath; L Coughlan, L Browne, K O’Leary.

Clare: A Lenihan; A Keane, S Ní Chonaill, G Harvey; C McCormack, C Harvey (capt.), L Griffin; C Blake, A Reidy; S Considine, C Moloney, A Sexton; L Griffey, C McCarthy, F Marrinan.

TG4 Senior (A) Final

Cork v Kerry; Mallow, 3.30pm

Cork are the reigning TG4 Munster Senior A champions – as Kerry aim for a first provincial title at this level since 2017.

The sides have already met twice this season in competitive fare – with Cork winning in Division 1 of the Lidl National League, before the Rebels came from behind to snatch a 2-14 to 2-14 draw in the round-robin stages of the Munster Championship.

Indeed, Cork were the only county to inflict a defeat on champions Kerry in the Lidl National League – and they’re unbeaten in those two outings against the Kingdom.

Both counties will fancy their chances of making real progress in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship – and the nature of the rivalry between them will ensure that there’s no backward step taken in Mallow.

There’s the chance to strike a real psychological blow and Cork have opted for an unchanged team after getting past Waterford to book their place in the Final.

Kerry worked hard for victory over Tipperary to secure their Final place – and joint-managers Declan Quill and Darragh Long have made three changes in personnel.

Eilís Lynch, Aoife Dillane and Aishling O’Connell return to the starting line-up, with Ciara O’Brien, Mary O’Connell and Louise Galvin dropping out.

Cork, managed by Shane Ronayne, won last year’s Munster Final by 2-11 to 1-9 against Kerry in Killarney.

Cork: M O’Sullivan; A Ryan, E Meaney, R Phelan; M Duggan, S Kelly, S Leahy; A Healy, H Looney; L Coppinger, D O’Sullivan, E Kiely; O Cahalane, K Quirke, C O’Sullivan.

Kerry: C Butler; E Lynch, K Cronin, A Dillane; A O’Connell, E Costello, C Murphy; L Scanlon, C Lynch; N Carmody, N Ní Chonchúir, A Galvin; H O’Donoghue, D O’Leary, L Ní Mhuircheartaigh.

Ulster

TG4 Intermediate Final

Antrim v Tyrone; Owenbeg Centre of Excellence, Derry, 1.30pm

Tyrone will put their TG4 Ulster Intermediate title on the line against dangerous opposition.

Antrim captured the TG4 All-Ireland Junior title last year and have continued upon their winning ways in 2023, with Lidl National League Division 4 glory followed by progress to the Ulster Intermediate Final.

Tyrone won in the round-robin phase but Antrim will have learned plenty from that narrow setback.

This will be the first-ever Antrim-Tyrone Ulster Intermediate Final – with victories for both over Monaghan sending them through before they met in the group stages, which finished in a 2-15 to 4-7 win for the Red Hands.

Antrim: A McCann; D Coleman, A Keenan, E Ferran; O Corr, C Brown, S O’Neill; A Mulholland, Á Tubridy; T Mellon, C Carey (capt.), L Dahunsi; B Devlin, O Prenter, M O’Neill.

Tyrone: S McVey; M Corrigan, C Magee, E Quinn; J Lyons, C Campbell, E Hegarty; E.J. Gervin, A McHugh (capt.); A Horisk, G Rafferty, S Byrne; M Canavan, N Hughes, A McGahan.

TG4 Senior Final

Armagh v Donegal; Owenbeg Centre of Excellence, Derry, 3.30pm

Armagh and Donegal meet again in a TG4 Ulster Senior Final.

Donegal haven’t won this title since 2019, when they put 5-12 past Armagh, but the Orchard County have had the upper hand since then in the province.

Armagh are going for four-in-a-row in Ulster, with a 2020 Final victory over Monaghan followed up by back-to-back wins over Donegal in 2021 and 2022.

Kelly Mallon’s goal secured a dramatic extra-time win for Armagh over Donegal last year and when the sides met earlier this month in the round-robin phase, Armagh were 1-15 to 2-4 winners.

Donegal opened that fixture well but Armagh, the Lidl National League Division 2 champions, settled and eased to a comfortable win.

Armagh will start as favourites and there’s one change to the team that defeated Cavan comprehensively last time out, with Louise Kenny coming in for Catherine Marley in defence.

The Donegal team that lost to Armagh in their last outing shows two changes – with Shelly Twohig and Ciara McGarvey listed to start ahead of Karen Guthrie and Laoise Ryan.

Armagh: A Carr; S Grey, C McCambridge, L Kenny; G Ferguson, L McConville, C Towe; N Coleman, E Lavery; B Mackin, A Mackin, E Druse; N Marley, K Mallon (capt.), A McCoy.

Donegal: C Friel; N Carr, A Temple Asoko, Nicole McLaughlin; A Boyle Carr, S McGroddy, T Hegarty; S Twohig, Niamh McLaughlin (capt.); R Rodgers, K Long, K Dowds; E Gallagher, K Herron, C McGarvey.
