Gerry Reilly Tournament

The Oldcastle hosted Gerry Reilly Tournament is now in it’s 29th year

Dublin’s U16 Footballers will commence their journey in this year’s Gerry Reilly commemorative football competition with an away trip to Kildare tomorrow night in the Hawkfield Centre Of Excellence.

The competition, named in the memory of Reilly, who died tragically at the age of 16 in 1987, will feature sixteen U16 teams across four groups. Teams will play each other once over three dates; July 11th, July 14th and July 28th.

The top two teams in each group will play out the four Quarter Final games, hosted at Meath’s Oldcastle GFC on August 11th, with the Semi Finals and Final also played in Oldcastle on August 18th and September 8th respectively.

Dublin are drawn in Group B, along with Antrim, Down and Kildare, facing the Lillies first tomorrow night, then Down on Saturday, followed by Antrim on the 28th.

The young Dubs have won the competition five times since it’s creation in 1989, last winning the memorial cup in 2013. Westmeath have captured the silverware nine times, but haven’t won it since 2011. Monaghan last year raised the cup for the first time, with Cavan winning it three years in succession between 2014 and 2016. Host county Meath have won the competition seven times, with their last win in 2007.

We’d like to wish all counties involved the very best of luck in the Gerry Reilly Tournament.
