Castleknock 1-17

A high quality Quarter Final in the second of today’s two games in Parnell Park saw Thomas Davis secure a Semi Final slot against Kilmacud Crokes in the Senior 1 Football Championship.

This is Thomas Davis’ first year back at this level having secured the Senior 2 title only 12 months ago. But looking at the side today, you wouldn’t have believed it. Goals from Ryan Deegan, Ciaran Farrelly and Brendan Kirby had Castleknock looking for answer, with two of the goals coming one after the other early in the game.

Credit must go to Thomas McDaniels, Gerard McDermottroe and Ciaran Kilkenny who shot some huge scores for Castleknock. But with the two early Thomas Davis goals, the task of chasing the game was never quite realised.

Admittedly Castleknock started the game in control and led 0-04 to 0-04 by the 20th minute of the first half. But two great finishes to the net by Ryan Deegan and Ciaran Farrelly turned tie on it’s head giving Thomas Davis a 2-04 to 0-05 advantage.

Eoin Lambert and Eoin Kirby linked up to serve the ball right to Deegan who buried the ball low and into the Castleknock net past Morven Connolly. Immediately from the restart Thomas Davis regained possession of the ball and Farrelly made no mistake with his finish.

Goals win games

The reply from Castleknock was a goal of their own with Thomas McDaniel’s shot beating Rob Crilly to claw back three points. McDermottroe two score from play and a converted free for Castleknock before the break. But Cian Murphy replied for Davis giving them a 2-07 to 1-08 edge at the break.

Within a minute of the restart Brendan Kirby got Thomas Davis’ third green flag. McDermottroe, Rob Shaw, Ciaran Kilkenny and Tom Shiels all tried tirelessly to close the gap but ultimately the three goals had put Thomas Davis in a great postition, and some fantastic defending from Adam Fallon and Cian Murphy throughout made it difficult for Castleknock to break down their opponents.
