There was lots of talk in the media about records and history in the lead up to yesterday’s Leinster Senior Football Championship Final between Dublin and Westmeath.

All the attention was focused on the current Dublin team equalling the six in a row record set by the revered Dublin team of the 70’s, which they did with a second half demolition job on Westmeath to win by fifteen points.

But there was another piece of history made yesterday by Dublin Captain Stephen Cluxton, who entered the record books by winning his 12th Leinster SFC title and is now the most decorated footballer in Leinster Championship history.

Cluxton turns 35yrs old later this year and if he wants, could go on for many more years to come, and could add further titles to his already star studded intercounty career that not only includes 12 Leinster titles, but also three National League titles, three All Ireland titles and 5 All Star awards.

Recently retired Alan Brogan was joined yesterday by his brother Bernard who won his 11th Leinster title to equal his older siblings haul of Provincial titles.
