St Jude’s 1-15
Clontarf 1-03
St Jude’s advanced to the next round of the Dublin Senior Football club championship after an easy victory over Clontarf in Parnell Park this afternoon.
Jude’s led at the break by seven points with Clontarf only managing one point in the opening half and it was the men in navy and blue who stretched their lead further within the opening minute of the second period with a free from Niall Coakley.
St Jude’s as they had done in the first half enjoyed the bulk of the possession and further points from Ross O’Brien, Niall Coakley, Kieran Doherty and Diarmuid McLaughlin pushed Jude’s even further ahead and the scoreline was now looking a bit embarrassing for Clontarf.
In fairness to Clontarf they didn’t drop their heads and with nine minutes to play to go Maitias MacDonncha hit their second point of the game, Jude’s replied with a point from Brendan Lyskey.
With six minutes to go Clontarf’s non stop work rate was rewarded when a long ball to the square was toe poked by Brian Forde towards goal and the ball just about crept over the line before Jude’s keeper Paul Copeland retrieved it.
But St Jude’s were not going to allow any sort of a comeback by Clontarf and hit three unanswered points from Kieran Doherty, Diarmuid McLaughlin and Paul Courtney to cancel out the goal.
Ross McCullagh hit Clontarf’s final score of the game with a fine point and it was left to Colm Murphy from Jude’s to have the last say of the contest with an excellent point.
