We now know the details for our Hurlers and Footballers in this year’s Leinster Minor Championship
Today the details for this year’s Leinster Minor Championship in both football and hurling were announced. Which means it’s time to update the calendars again to get out and support the players from both panels.
In the football championship, there will be three groups. Two groups with four teams and one group with three teams. Kilkenny have decided not to enter the Leinster competition this year leaving one group a team short.
Dublin reached last year’s Leinster Final, only to be beaten by Kildare in the decider. But along the way they notched up some heavy wins. They saw off Meath, Wexford and Offaly in the Round Robin section and knocked out Wicklow and Westmeath in the Quarter and Semi Finals. They pushed Kildare to Extra Time in the final but the Lillies eventually ran out the stronger side.
This year Dublin are paired in Group 1 alongside Longford , Westmeath and Laois. Group 2 consists of Meath, Louth, Kildare and Wexford, with Carlow, Offaly and Wicklow making up the final group.
In the Hurling Championship, Dublin will play in Section 1A with Kilkenny and Wexford. Section A2 will be made up of Offaly, Laois and the winners of a play off between Meath and Carlow. Section B of the competition will consist of the losing team from that play off, Kildare, Down, Westmeath and Antrim.
In last year’s provincial championship the Dubs lost to Kilkenny, beat Offaly and drew with Wexford in the rounds. They did advance to a Semi Final but they were beaten by Wexford at the second time of asking.
