Dublin v Mayo 2017

Jim Gavin’s back to back All Ireland winning Dublin squad will begin the defence of their Title with an away trip in their Leinster opener either in Wexford or Laois.

After a meeting tonight, the Leinster Council has confirmed that the boys in blue will again begin their title defence on the road, away from the confines of Croke Park.

Dublin await the winners of the preliminary round game between Wexford and Carlow which takes place on the 21st of May and the winners face the Dubs on the 3rd or 4th of June. It was revealed this evening that should the Slaneysiders prevail, the match will take place at Innovate Wexford Park.

If on the other hand Carlow emerge victorious, the fixture will be staged at O’Moore Park in Portlaoise.

It’s great news for Dublin fans to once again get an away day in the summer sun and if this years trip to Nowlan Park in Kilkenny to play Laois in this years Leinster opener is anything to go by, it’s sure to be another memorable trip with the same carnival atmosphere.

New Wexford manager Seámus McEnaney will also be happy with tonight decision. He stated earlier this week that taking Dublin on the road again would be a great promotional opportunity for either Wexford or Carlow to have home advantage against the reigning champions.
