Well the Christmas and New Year celebrations are almost over, which can only mean one thing. A brand new year and a new GAA season has arrived.
And what better way to start than the Bord Na Mona Pre Season Competitions.
As always, Dublin will be involved in both the O’Byrne Cup football competition and the Walsh Cup hurling competition, and both panels are in action twice this week.
Pat Gilroy will commence his tenure as Dublin Senior Hurling Manager, and his back room team including Anthony Cunningham and Mickey Whelan will look to hit the ground running in this year’s Walsh Cup.
This Wednesday, the Dubs will welcome Meath to the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown for their opening game. Throw in time is 8:00pm. Then on Sunday it’s into Parnell Park for a 2:00pm Throw In as Antrim make the trip across the border as Dublin’s second opponents.
Paul Clarke will be managing the Dublin football panel again this year following last year’s successful O’Byrne Cup campaign. And the Dubs will be looking to retain the trophy.
Their first game is against Offaly this Wednesday in Parnell Park with an 8:00pm Throw In. Then the Boys in Blue will make the trip to Enniscorthy on Sunday for their second round robin game, facing Wexford. Throw in time on St. Patricks Park is 2:00pm.
