With the return of the O’Byrne Cup Dublin footballers get an early start to the 2022 Football Season
After a premature end to this year’s season for the Dublin Senior Footballers, Dessie Farrell’s men will get a nice early start in 2022 as the Leinster Preseason competitions return with the commencement of the O’Byrne Cup on Saturday January 8th.
Heading towards a record seventh All Ireland in a row, the Dubs were ambushed in the last four clash by a hungrier Mayo side, ending their year. And before they can look at retainging the Allianz League title they shared with Kerry, they’ll be in warm up action over the four weeks in January.
Dublin are drawn in Group A of the football competition, alongside Offaly, Louth and Longford. In Group B, Wicklow, Meath, Wexford and Laois will batte it out. And Kildare, Carlow and Westmeath will decide Group C. The winners of Group A will advance directly to O’Byrne Cup Final, with the winners of Group B and C playing off for the second slot in that final.
Should Dublin reach the competition final there will be a week between that game and their Allianz NFL opener against Armagh at Croke Park on January 29th.
