Another week has rolled around and it’s time to announce the We Are Dublin, Dublin Player Of The Weekend.

As always for our new followers who don’t know what this is, it’s a weekly award given to who we believe was the standout Dublin player from the previous weekends intercounty action.

Last weekend we only had one game to choose from and that was the meeting between Dublin and Donegal in the TG4 All Ireland SFC quarter final.

Dublin overcame a stern test from Donegal to progress to the All Ireland semi finals for the third straight year.

There were a number of players who stood out on the day including Deirdre Murphy, Sinead Aherne, Sinead Goldrick and Noelle Healy to name a few.

But one player epitomized everything that’s brilliant about this squad with a performance of high intensity work rate, skill, passing, high fielding and score taking, blocking and turnovers and that player was Niamh McEvoy.

Niamh put in a cracking display particularly in the second half of the game. She either won every ball that was thrown in or tapped it down for a team mate, turned over the ball on a number times thanks to he consistent tracking of players and tigerish tackling.

The St Sylvesters stay ran menacingly at the Donegal defence at every opportunity putting them on the back foot and opening up space for her forward colleges, a the whole always looking for a pass to a player in the best position to take a score.

Niamh brilliantly caught a high ball over her shoulder and quickly off loaded the ball to Lyndsey Davey for a crucial point and Niamh topped off her top notch display with two eye catching points in Dublin’s victory.

So the very deserving winner of this weeks We Are Dublin, Dublin Player Of The Weekend award is NIAMH McEVOY.
