Dublin boss Jim Gavin today confirmed Rory O’Carrolls return to the squad and also stated he would also love to see Diarmuid Connolly back.
Speaking to both DUBStv and Off The Ball at today’s Leinster Championship Launch At Casement Aerodrome In Baldonnel – Gavin stated based on his performances for Kilmacud Crokes Rory O’Carroll was back in the squad on merit.
When asked if Diarmuid Connolly would been seen in Dublin jerseys again in 2019, Jim replied he was hopeful but it was a case of wait and see if it happened
”Yeah hopefully so, Rory is obviously back playing with the club and playing really well and based on his performance with the club, like there are no exceptions to it, if your playing well with the club we will bring you in, so Rory’s in.
”Diarmuid, like a lot of players make choices and some players decide to put themselves forward for the county squads and some players don’t, a bit like Paul Flynn taking a bow-out from the inter-county scene and so I respect those choices, we would love to have some of those players involved but at the moment they are not, but who knows as the weeks progress.”
"Dublin supporters and myself would love to see him [Connolly] back."

When Gavin was pressed if he had a conversation with Diarmuid about coming back Jim replied:
”I speak to a lot of players, “we’ve gone to war with Diarmuid on the playing field over many, many years … outstanding player and of course Dublin supporters and myself would love to see him back and who knows.”
Dublin boss Jim Gavin also stated that there will be some new players invited into training this week and afforded the opportunity to impress ahead of Dublin’s provincial opener in a few weeks time against either Louth or Wexford.
“Over the coming week, we’ll be inviting players in that have never represented the Dublin senior football team before, into our training, because they have performed consistently well in the club leagues and the club championship.
“If they play consistently well for their clubs and want to play with the county and make a choice – because it is a choice – then we’re interested.”
So O’Carrolls return is confirmed, no definitive answer yet on whether Connolly will return or not so it’s a case of watch this space and there is a distinct possibility that there will be some new faces in the squad, it’s going to an interesting few weeks and months for Dublin supporters.
