As had been expected the CCCC have handed Dublin’s Diarmuid Connolly with a 12 week suspension which will rule the talented Dublin forward out until a potential All Ireland semi-final in late August.

It was not believed that the CCCC would convene till this evening to discuss the alleged altercation between Connolly and linesman Ciaran Brannigan in Saturday nights Leinster Championship quarter final against Carlow.

The incident has divided opinion between supporters, ex-players and pundits, but the swiftness of the meeting and decision by the CCCC to hand down the suspension to the St Vincent’s man is probably more down to the trial by media the incident has received over the last couple of days and Pat Spillane and Colm O’Rourke’s condemnation on the Sunday Game probably had a significant impact on the decision.

Will Dublin appeal the decision or accept the ban, we will have to wait and see.
