Not that it would come as much of a surprise to that many, but Dublin’s one man powerhouse Diarmuid Connolly has been shortlisted for June’s GAA/GPA Opel Football Player of the Month Award.

Joined on the shortlist by Galway’s Paul Conroy and Donegal’s Ryan McHugh, it’s been well documented that Connolly is playing the best football of his life lately.

Following Dublin’s opening Leinster win against Laois at the beginning of the month, Diarmuid was declared the GAA.ie Player of the week, beating Monaghan’s Kieran Hughes and Dublin team mate Dean Rock in the public vote.

Connolly’s work rate has been immeasurable and against Meath in the Leinster Semi Final, he was quite simply the light on a very dull day.

This weekend he gets yet another opportunity to shine as Jim Gavin’s team square off against Westmeath in this year’s Leinster Senior Football Final in Croke Park.

The winner of the GAA/GPA Opel Football and Hurling Players Of The Month will be announced on Thursday, July 14th.
