It’s becoming a regular occurrence over the last couple of years. Con O Callaghan finding himself in perfect scoring positions. It even more common to see him finish them with great perfection.

In 2017 Con got the All Ireland Football Final underway with a cracking goal in the second minute against Mayo. In last year’s Semi Final win over Galway it was another three pointer for the Cuala youngster.

But it was a sublime personal performance two weeks ago. Dublin picked apart Mayo in a 15 minute second half showcasing the Dublin star forward’s class. In both the 37th and 46th minute O Callaghan found the net to push Dublin away from Mayo, ending their Championship hopes.

Con’s rise to the top has been peppered with goals, and as he builds from a boy to a man, his skill, strength and speed are nothing short of frightening. We certainly wouldn’t want to be on an opposing team.

So another for the Dublin marksman, adding to the countless awards he’s already received in his short career. But one that this month he truly deserved.

Noel McGrath played a man of the match performance against Kilkenny in the All Ireland Hurling final, where he orchestrated Tipperary’s dominance over their fierce rivals with his silky skill, composure and deadly execution to reclaim the Liam McCarthy for the first time since 2016. There’s no argument Noel was deserving of the Hurling Player Of the Month.

Both players exemplified the pride and passion which are central to the game.

Ard Stiúrthóir CLG, Tom Ryan, said “The two players are a credit to their clubs and their counties and have exemplified the pride and passion which are central to our games. Many thanks on behalf of the GAA to Feargal O’Rourke and the PwC team for hosting today’s event and all they do in the promotion of our games.”

Speaking on behalf of the GPA, Philip Greene, National Executive Council added “Congratulations to both Noel and Con on winning their respective awards. Both players have been exceptional on the pitch throughout the championship and are deserving winners of the PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month Awards for August.”
