National Football League - Live Updates

Mayo v Dublin
Saturday, February 1st. 7:00pm
MacHale Park, Castlebar

Plenty of drama to kick off the National Football League last weekend. And plenty to talk about as both Dublin and Mayo both drew their opening round games.

MacHale Park will host yet another League encounter between Dublin and Mayo as a massive crowd is expected to watch under the lights in Castlebar. It’s a trip Dublin supporters make in their droves.

James Horan has chosen a collection of emerging and established footballers to take on the five in a row All Ireland Champions, as Mayo look to retain their League crown.

While Dublin traversed to dominance this decade, Mayo seemed to be the side to always cause them headaches. But since 2012 the men from the west have failed to put a dent in Dublin’s armour.

Tonight’s match will offer James Horan an opportunity to assess how the likes of Oisin Mullin, Padraig O Hora, Jordan Flynn, and Tommy Conroy will fare.

James Durcan’s smashing late goal rescued a share of the spoils for Mayo against Donegal last weekend. And that resilience will need to be demonstrated again tonight.

Dublin, with Brian Fenton and Ciaran Kilkenny prominent, drew with Kerry at Croke Park to supply another reminder, as if it was needed, about their considerable character and class. They start Rory O’Carroll tonight in place of Philly McMahon, with Paul Mannion returning to the starting 15.
