It all starts again tonight in Croke Park as the Allianz National Football League begins
Dublin v Kerry
Saturday, January 25th. 7:15pm
Croke Park, Dublin
Tonight, the Dublin Senior Football panel put aside their historic five in a row All Ireland achievement. And they try and create the intrigue that the opening weekend of the Allianz National Football League always brings.
Elsewhere, over today and tomorrow, Donegal face Mayo, Tyrone entertain Meath and Galway and Monaghan go head to head. But tonight our focus of course will be on Croke Park as Dessie Farrell takes the reigns in his first League game as new Dublin manager. And he’ll be hoping to steer the ship left in a more than steady position by Jim Gavin.
The team have only returned to collective training less than two weeks ago so the new boss knows his side will not be a peak fitness, but has admitted the lads have done well in training are anxious to get things going.
And while nothing is ever decided in January, Farrell and Kerry boss Peter Keane will be looking to start their experimenting before they go full pelt in this year’s Championship.
Both the drawn All Ireland Final last year and the replay, seeing Dublin eventually crowned champions, showed just how promising a side Kerry are. But it also showed Dublin’s greatness and ability to adapt and embrace changes.
Tonight couldn’t be a better start to proceedings with two of the greats of the game facing off on the grandest surface in the game. It starts all over again.
