Dublin and Galway will finally square off in the 2020 All Ireland U20 Football Final ahead of the Senior Final on December 19th
Another twist in the tale of 2020 as we can confirm that this year’s All Ireland U20 Football Final will go ahead. And it will be part of a huge All Ireland Final day on December 19th. The decider will be the curtain raiser at 2:30pm in Croke Park, with the All Ireland Senior Football Final throwing in at 5pm. The particpants of that final will be decided this weekend with Dublin facing Cavan on Saturday and Mayo squaring off against Tipperary on Sunday.
The U20 competition, along with all other competitions outside of the Senior Leagues and Championships were called to a halt during tightened restrictions this year due to COVID-19. But with the changes in those restrictions this week, more competitions are being allowed continue. And it means the Dublin U20’s will get their opportunity to capture their first All Ireland title.
The Dubs came close last year having secured the provincial honours and navigating their way to the final. But they faced a strong Cork side. And the Munster Champions outplayed Dublin to secure teh All Ireland title.
Dublin see themselves in the same position this year. They secured a second consecutive Leinster title when they beat Laois by 0-18 to 0-08 back in March and were geared up to face Tyrone in their All Ireland Semi Final before proceedings came to a complete halt back in March. Months past but Dublin finally got their date with the Ulster men as they hit the road to Breffni Park back in October. And after a late flourish Tom Gray’s men finally saw off Tyrone on a 1-14 to 1-12 scoreline setting up their final with Galway.
Dublin fans will be hoping the U20’s will be raising the curtain for Dessie Farrell’s Senior Footballers should they see off Cavan this weekend.
