The Dublin Senior 1 Football Championship Gets Underway Between April 15th and April 18th
This evening the groups for this year’s Dublin Senior 1 Football Champions were announced and Round 1 of the competition get’s underway mid April.
As usual, the competition is broken into four groups of four teams. St. Brigids and St. Sylvesters were relegated last year, making way for Round Towers Lusk and Whitehall Colmcille who were both promoted from the Senior 2 Championship last year.
2019 runners up Thomas Davis are joined in Group 1 by newcomers Round Towers Lusk, Ballymun Kickhams who will be looking to improve on last year’s competition, and Skerries Harps. Skerries avoided relegation last year, beating St. Brigids in a play off to keep their Senior 1 status.
St. Judes topped Group 3 last year and reached the last four of the competition, eventually losing to Ballyboden. They’re joined in Group 2 this year by Na Fianna, who reached last year’s Quarter Finals. The other two sides in the group are Lucan Sarsfield and Ballinteer St. Johns, who both finished third placed in their respective groups last year.
Reigning champions Ballyboden St. Endas will be looking to defend their crown in Group 3. They’re joined by Clontarf who were beaten Quarter Finalists last year. St. Vincents were also beaten Quarter Finalists last year and will be looking for their 29th county championship. And completing the quarter are newly promoted Whitehall Colmcille.
The final group will be made up of last year’s beaten Semi Finalists Kilmacud Crokes who would be hot contenders again this year. Raheny, who narrowly missed out on a last eight spot last year will be looking to get out of the group stages again. And they’re paired again with St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh this year. Castleknock complete Group 4 again this year, the group they topped in 2019 before losing to Thomas Davis in the Quarter Finals.
Round 1 of this year’s Senior 1 Football Championship will take place between Wednesday, April 15th and Saturday April 18th.
