There will be no promotion or relegation in the 2020 Dublin club championships

The Dublin GAA county board released a statement today regarding the 2020 Dublin club championships and the revised games programme at adult and juvenile levels.

In what will disappoint some teams and please others it has been agreed that their will be no promotion or relegation in this years football and hurling championships.

Clubs outside of the top tier will have to wait till 2021 to full-fill dreams of promotion and a chance to claim the top county honour.

The hurling club championships will be first to get going on the weekend of the the 18th and 19th of July with the football club championships starting a week later on the weekend of the 25th and 26th of July.

The football group draws made back in February still stand as does the senior hurling championship A draws. New draws are required for the rest of the hurling championships.

Dates for the diary

Hurling championship starts on the weekend of the 18th/19th of July

Football championship starts on the weekend of the 25th/26th of July. Hurling and football games will be on alternate weeks.

The Hurling final will take place on the weekend of the 12th/13th of September. The adult football semi-finals will also take place on the weekend of the 12th/13th of September.

The SFC1 and SFC2 finals will take place on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of September.

There will be new draws for the SHC B, IHC and JHC A to E championships and those draws take place later this week.

There will be three groups of four teams in these championships with the top two teams in each group advancing to Quarter-finals plus the two best 3rd placed teams.

Also this year there will be no provincial or All Ireland championships for the club championship winners at senior, intermediate or junior levels.

There will be a secondary competition starting after Round 3 of the round robin Championships. But there are no details on this at the present time.

The juvenile committees (Bord na nÓg, CCC1 & CCC2) have also today confirmed their competition return dates, U16’s return on the 5th of August, U15’s on the 13th of August, U12’s to U14’s on the 22nd of August and U8’s to U11’s on the 29th of August.
