The county is still basking in the glow of All Ireland victory and the first back to back titles since the 70’s. But only twelve days on from that victory and mext seasons Championship will come firmly into focus as the draw for the 2017 Football and Hurling Championships takes place tomorrow night live on RTÉ 2.

Why the draw takes place every year so soon after the conclusion of the championship is a mystery. It’s not like say a world cup where the draw has to be made well in advance because there are huge logistical issues to deal with. Having the draw for the following seasons championship only weeks or days after the conclusion of the current one only adds to the feeling of a never ending season, surely it would be better for all concerned for it to take place in January which would at least give the appearance of a break in the season.

Tomorrow night presenters Michael Lyster, Joanne Cantwell and Marty Morrissey will be joined by Joe Brolly, Dessie Dolan, Henry Shefflin and Liam Sheedy for the 2017 Football and Hurling Championship draws.

A host of top GAA stars will also be in attendance.

The programme starts at 9.30pm.
