Another Wednesday night has rolled around and it’s time to name the We Are Dublin GAA, Dublin Player Of The Weekend.

As we say each week for our new followers who don’t know what this is, it’s a weekly award we give to the Dublin player the we choose as the standout performer from the previous weekends inter county action.

The winner this week comes from the thrilling All Ireland Senior Camogie championship game between Dublin and Clare.

The girls in blue had a number of players who were up for consideration for this weeks award. Dublin goalkeeper Faye McCarthy was coolness personified as she travelled out from her position between the sticks to convert five vital frees.

Siobhan Kehoe, Aishling Maher and Zoe O’Donoghue all played their part in Dublin’s victory putting in serious shifts and grabbing a goal each.

But one player stood out among the many top performers. The player in question started on the half forward line, but with Clare gaining the upper hand in the first half and particularly with the pace of Niamh O’Dea causing all sorts of problems, the management switched her to the full back position and it worked a treat as she nullified the threat from O’Dea.

But with the girls in blue four points behind at half time she was switched back to her more familiar half forward role and she immediately got on the front foot and knocked over a beauty of a point shortly after the restart.

The player we are talking about is Naomh MearnĂ³g star Miriam Twomey. Dublin dominated the middle sector of the pitch last Saturday thanks in no small measure to the work rate, blocking, hooking, clever passing and driving runs from Miriam.

The Dublin half forward must have covered every blade of the Parnells GAA club pitch against Clare and her sheer will to win and determination that Dublin weren’t leaving the pitch without the required result was infectious and spread throughout the team in the second half.

And for all of those reason the winner of this weeks We Are Dublin GAA, Dublin Player Of The Weekend is MIRIAM TWOMEY.

Congratulations Miriam very well deserved for your brilliant and inspirational display. #coygib
