Reigning Champions St. Vincents are on the verge of retaining their Senior 1 Camogie Crown after Superb Semi Final win
St. Vincents 1-23
Ballyboden St. Endas 0-03
This afternoon really ended up not being about St. Vincents advancing to another Senior 1 Camogie Final in the We Are Dublin GAA Dublin Camogie Adult Club Championships. It was the manner in which they did it. And when they come face to face with Naomh Jude next weekend it’s really difficult to imagine anyone beating the Marino side. But if anyone is going to give it a crack, Judes are certainly best built for the challenge.
Vincent’s pulled no punches today against a Ballyboden St. Endas side, who simply were stifled from the throw in. And by half time the game was all but over, with Vincents leading by 1-11 to 0-01. From Claire Clinton’s puck outs right down to the accuracy of Aisling Maher up front, the team, and the substitutions, were faultless.
Within the first 2 minutes from throw in Grace Kilroy had opened Vincents account before an unselfish Aisling Maher played Aine Fanning on the send the sliotar past Sile Cotter into the Ballyboden net. It was eight minutes before a Sarah Nagle converted free gave Boden their first and onyl score of the half. And by then Kilroy and Ali Maguire (2) had further extended Vincent’s lead.
The Vincent’s back three of Elaine O’Leary, Deirdre Johnstone and Lora Smith absorbed absolutely every but of pressure that Boden could muster. And Ciara O’Leary hardly put a foot wrong all afternoon in the half back line.
The onslaught continued from Vincents, as the frustration continued for Boden. a further seven scores with no reply from Muireann Kelleher, Anna O’Sullivan, Aisling Maher (3), Grace Kilroy, Niamh Hetherton and Ali Maguire. While Dearblha Brennan relentlessly tried to counteract the pressure for Boden, all she could muster was two attempts drifting wide.
No let up from Vincents as they cruise to victory
Eight scores in twelve minutes of the restart gave Vincents a twenty score advantage before Laura Nagle got Ballyboden’s first score from play. Ash Maher and Ali Maguire found their range three times each during that spell with Grace Kilroy and Anna O’Sullivan also adding tot their personal tallies.
St. Vincents eased off the gas in the last quarter, but Ash Maher added another two to her account including Vinnies last free of the game. Kilroy, Kelleher and Hetherton completed the scoring for the reigning champs, with Boden midfielder Katie McDonald registering the final score of the game and a consolation for her side.
The Marino outfit march onto another Championship final with a confidence that can neither be ignored or denied.
