It wasn’t Dublin’s day today as Kilkenny outperformed Jonny Jackson’s side to win an entertaining final by 11 points and were crowned Leinster U16A Camogie champions.

Kilkenny’s ability to score goals at vital stages of each half and the fact Dublin played a couple of levels below their best were the key factors to the result of the game.

Dublin has the better of the opening stages and led by 0-03 to 0-02 after ten minutes, the Dublin points scored by Ellie Young with two converted free and Emma Diamond with a nice score from play.

Midway through the opening half there was nothing to separate the teams with the score 0-04 apiece.

But an unanswered 1-03 between the 17th and 29th minute from Kilkenny with the goal coming from Aine Doyle put the girls from the Marble City in control and at the break Dublin found themselves six adrift with the half-time score Dublin 0-05 and Kilkenny 1-08.

It was a tight start to the second half, Kilkenny extended their lead with two points from Aine Doyle but Dublin responded with two of their own scored by Emma Diamond and Aisling Gannon.

But Kilkenny all but finished off the game as a contest with a 2-02 scoring burst with Leah Brett and Keara Ryan grabbing the goals.

Dublin’s Phoebe Shannon struck a nice point from play, Kilkenny hit back with a point of their own from Cria Langton. Ellie Young then converted her third free of the game.

The final blow looked to have been struck with 11 minutes to go when Sarah Barcoe scored Kilkenny’s fourth of the final. But the Dublin girls didn’t let their heads drop and had their best spell of the game and scored 1-03 without reply, Aisling Gannon hitting a bullet of a shot to the net.

Unfortunately time ran out for Dublin and Kilkenny were deservedly crowned Leinster U16A Camogie Champions.
