Naomh Mearnog came out on top against Setanta this afternoon in a thrilling We Are Dublin GAA Senior 6 Camogie Championship Final.
Both sides got stuck in from the start and there was little between the sides in the opening exchanges. By the eleventh minute Mearnog’s led by four points to two.
But minutes later and Setanta raised the first green flag of the day to take the lead for the first time in the final. They quickly followed that up with a point from a free to go two points up.
Mearnog’s though were moving well and causing the Setanta defence plenty of problems and with nine minutes left in the half, two quick fire points one from open play and the other from a free, had the sides were level again.
Minutes later and Naomh Mearnog struck for their first goal of the game to give them a three point advantage, they held that till the break to lead 1-06 to 1-03 with it all still to play for.
The sides swapped points at the start of the second period, then in the fifth and thirteenth minute of the second half Mearnog hit the decisive scores with two well taken goals.
Now down by nine points Setanta needed to dig deep and dig deep they did as they battled for every ball and pressurised Mearnog all over the pitch. The sides again swapped points and then with five minutes left Setanta made it a two score game when the hit the second goal.
But try as they did they couldn’t get any closer and heading into injury time Mearnog’s hit the insurance point to claim victory.
