Dublin Intermediates Will Face A Relegation Play Off

Dublin 0-07

Derry 2-10

Dublin’s Intermediate Camogie Squad face a relegation play off after defeat today by table toppers Derry in division 2 of the Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie League.

A battling display from Dublin wasn’t enough to keep Derry at bay and goals, one in each half scored by Mary Hegarty and Mairead McNicholl steered Derry to the win.

In a tough opening half there was only a point between the sides after the first quarter. Derry grabbed the first point in the third minute with a free from Grainne McGoldrick.

It was all square in the 8th minute with Aoibhe Dillon converting a free. Derry retook the lead with a good point from play by Aoife Quinn.

A goal from Mary Hegarty and point from Grainne McGoldrick stretched the Derry lead to five points with ten minutes to go the break.

A double from Aoibhe Dillon, one an excellent point from play and a successful free attempt put just a goal between the sides.

But just before the half time whistle a nice point from play by Grainne McGoldrick gave Derry a four point lead at the break with the score 1-04 to 0-03.

Within two minutes of the restart the lead was back to three after Aoibhe Dillon struck a free straight between the sticks.

Derry though doubled their lead in the 38th minute with a goal from Mairead McNicholl. Dublin’s Sinead Wilde hit a nice point from the right, but that’s was quickly erased with a point from Grainne McGoldrick.

A point in the 46th minute by Roisin O’Grady kept Dublin in touch but it wasn’t to be for Shane Plowman’s charges as Derry outscored the Dubs five points to one to claim the win.

The Derry points were scored by Grainne McGoldrick with two and one each from

Aoife Quinn, Aine McAllister and Shauna Quinn. The single reply from Dublin was a point scored by Grainne Power and Derry had nine points to spare at the finish.

Dublin will now face a relegation play off to hold on to their Division 2 status and will know their opponents once the draw has been made.
