Dublin welcome reigning champions Galway for their opening Littlewoods National Camogie League Fixture

National Camogie League

Dublin v Galway
Sunday, February 2nd. 2:00pm
TU Blanchardstown

A new year and a new season, with a new management team for the Dublin Senior Camogie Panel. And what a way to get up and running. This afternoon the reigning National Camogie League and All Ireland Champions Galway come to town. And they’ll prove a good acid test for Willie Braine and John Treacy as they start their maiden voyage.

Their first starting 15 is a great mixture of youth and experience. There’s a good number of players making their senior debuts today. A new face in goals as Rosie Kenneally makes her first League start. Hannah Hegarty makes a welcome return to the panel after some time away and is named captain for the League campaign.

Hannah will be flanked by Niamh Gannon and Zoe Couch in what makes up a very strong half-back line.

Miriam Twomey has made a full recovery from a Cruciate Ligament injury and will take up a new role in the full back line. And will be in good company alongside Emma Flanagan and Emma O’Byrne.

Braine and Treacy have struck up a really exciting midfield partnership consisting of Laura Twomey and Sinead Wylde, which will be interesting to watch. And a very strong front six has been named as Aoife Walsh, Roisin Baker and Caragh Dawson make up the half back line, providing support to Leah Butler, Kerrie Finnegan and the ever present Aisling Carolan.

The new trial rules will be in place for the National Camogie leagues. And it will be particularly interesting to see how the new contact rule will be interpreted by referees over the course of the games.
