Dublin 4-16

Senior Dub Stars 3-12

The second game up yesterday in Parnells GAA club was the meeting of the Dublin and the senior Dub Stars selection in the senior Camogie Dub Stars game.

It was a highly competitive and entertaining game with Dublin coming out on top of a seven goal thriller. It was the perfect game for new senior manager Frank Browne to run the rule over the top talent in Dublin representing both teams.

The opening ten minutes were as tight as you could get, Dublin opened the scoring with a point from Ali Twomey. The Dub Stars responded with two Laura Quinn points in the space of a minute.

Evelyn Twomey brought the sides level with an excellent point, but the Dub Stars got their noses back in front with a converted 45’ from Sinead Nolan.

That lead didn’t last long as points from the impressive Aisling Maher and Emma Flanagan gave Dublin a one point advantage with ten minutes on the clock.

Two minutes later and Niamh Rock swung over a point for the Dub Stars to level the game again.

Three points in a row, one from Aoibhe Dillon and two from Aisling Maher put Dublin three to the good, but just four minutes later and the Dub Stars retook the lead, Kerri Finnegan put the finishing touch to a well worked move and swept the ball to the net and shortly afterwards Sinead Wylde swung over a tasty point and the Dub Stars led by one.

It was all level again with eight minutes left in the half as Alex Griffin split the posts. Then two goals in the space of three minutes from Emma Flanagan and Aisling Maher from the penalty spot and a point from Evelyn Twomey opened up a seven point advantage to Dublin.

The pace of the game was unrelenting and the ferocity of the tackling made it hard to believe that this was just a challenge game.

Niamh Hetherton pulled one back for the Dub Stars but Dublin’s Aoibhe Dillon hit the last point of the half to leave Frank Browne’s side seven in front at the short whistle with the score 2-10 to 1-06.

The lead was eight just two minutes into the second half as Aisling Maher added another point to her ever growing total.

The deficit was cut in half though just minutes later as a point from Orla Beagan was quickly followed with an excellent goal from Roisin Baker who finished to the net from a tight angle.

A short barren scoring spell was ended by Dublin’s Ciara Carolan who hit a fine point straight over the black spot. Another sweeping Dublin move was finished to the net by Martha O’Donoghue and when Mary Cronin grabbed her first point of the game it stretched the lead back out to nine and the Sky Blues looked to be crushing to victory.

But the Dub Stars were not about roll over and had their best spell of the second half hitting an unanswered 1-03 to leave just a goal between the teams.

Sinead Nolan got the ball rolling with an excellent point, Roisin Baker followed that up with one over her shoulder and Nolan added a third from a free and then with 12 minutes left on the clock Baker scored her second goal of the game after a powerful determined run through the defence.

But moments later Emma Flanagan followed a high ball in and nicked the ball from the keeper to hand-pass the ball to the net and Dublin led by six.

Sinead Wylde pulled one back for the Dub Stars, but three points on the bounce from

Aisling Maher, Aoibhe Dillon and Emma Flanagan gave Dublin an eight point advantage with just minutes remaining.

As the game entered the final minute Sinead Wylde scores her third point on the day but Dublin secured the win with seven points to spare.
