Dublin 1-12
Carlow 1-07

Before Dublin Captain Elyse Jamieson Murphy get her hands on The Leinster B Camogie Championship, Leinster Chairperson and former Dublin Camogie chairperson Pat Martin addressed the Carlow side who had succumbed to Dublin in the gruelling heat this afternoon.

“Girls you have to lose one to win one, as these Dublin girls beside me know full well”…

Dublin have indeed knocked on the door before but today, and after an extremely well played campaign, they were crowned Leinster Champions.

In the driving seat for the majority of the first half, Dublin were ahead 1-05 to 0-02 by the start of the second quarter after Hannah Reynolds had managed to battle the ball through the carlow defence and into the net.

Try as they did, Carlow continued to thwarted, Jamieson Murphy the captain, and Libby Peppard who’s runs from deep were impressive right until she was substituted in teh second half.

Hannah, along with Fiona Isdell, and the pinpoint accuracy of Grainne Skelton’s free taking had done the necessary to see Dublin not lose their lead in this game despite Carlow running them close in the second half.

Catherine Kavanagh, who was on point herself for Carlow today will rue the four wides she gave up in the first half, scoring two from six attempts, both from play and frees. Chloe O’Dwyer was the only other scorer for Carlow, as Dublin lead 1-06 to 0-03 at Half time.

But after what was probably a rebel rousing team talk at the break, Carlow decided they weren’t letting Dublin have their own way, and with the first play of the half, Kavanagh sent a high ball in, dropping just below the crossbar to raise a green flag for her side to close the gap to 0-03.

A ’45 would narrow that lead further before Skelton opened her second half account for Dublin. Carlow were definitely finding a lot more space and forcing frees and by the beginning of the last quarter they had reduced the deficit to the minimum, thanks to Kavanagh, Abbie Foley and Caoimhe Coady.

But Coady’s point on 46 minutes would unfortunately be Carlow’s last. Skelton again added 0-02, one from play and one from a placed ball and with 5 minutes of normal time on the clock, Dublin only needed an insurance point to secure their victory, and with Hannah Reynolds obliging, it only left Grainne Skelton to cap off a brilliant personal performance to end the game 1-12 to 1-07, giving Dublin the win and the Leinster U16B Camogie title for 2018.
