Dublin Camogie Senior Star Aisling Carolan is the feature in AIG’s latest episode of the #DUBLINOURTEAM series
“When I started playing Camogie it was normal to lose… it’s normal to start winning now.”
It’s fair to say that the Dublin Senior Camogie panel have had their fair share of low points. But in recent years there has been a lift in fortune for the panel.
And reaching the Semi Final of last year’s Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship was definitely a reward for the hard work and dedication that these girls give every single day, week in, week out, all year round.
St. Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh star Aisling Carolan has become a well established member of the panel over the years.
Two years ago Aisling became the first recipient of the We Are Dublin GAA Senior Camogie Player Of The Year Award, standing out from the rest.
And in 2018, she was no different. A player who is skilful and adaptable, Carolan is one of many assets Dublin manager David Herity has in his arsenal.
“Club Is Everything”
Since the age of 16 Aisling has been with the Dublin Senior Camogie panel and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. If anything she’s improving in leaps and bounds as the years go on.
And it’s a dream of hers to one day play in an All Ireland Final in Croke Park. It’s her motivation through the bad times to keep driving forward.
Carolan is a teacher at Christ The King Boys School. She loves to teach as much as she loves to hurl. Her passion for Irish Dancing took second place to Camogie at the age of 18 to ensure she remove the physical demands on herself.
She cut her teeth when her Grandad brought her down to Plunketts to watch her brother play. And before there was even a girls team in the club Aisling was playing with the boys panel.
She shares the club stage now with her sister Ciara playing on the senior team. Ciara is a Dublin star in her own right, playing for the Premier Junior panel.
“Club is where you start and where you finish. It holds a huge place in my heart anyway.”
With Dublin Camogie evolving over the last number of years, Aisling Carolan has played a massive part in that evolution, and hopefully will continue to do so for a long time to come.
