Dublin 0-12
Roscommon 0-07
Yesterday afternoon Dublin’s Premier Junior Camogie squad put in a brilliant second half display to beat Roscommon and claim the counties first ever Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie Leagues Division 3 title.
Weather conditions were poor yesterday in Coralstown/Kinnegad GAA club for the final, with a strong wind and a constant stream of rain for the players from both teams to contend with.
Dublin won the toss and decided to play against the elements in the first half. They started well and points from Laoise Quinn and Caragh Dawson had the girls in blue in front inside the opening five minutes.
But Roscommon were getting plenty of possession and finding it easier to create scoring opportunities, but they were left to rue hitting five wides from six attempts in the opening twelve minutes with their only score coming from Niamh Watson.
By the 13th minute the sides were level when Shauna Fallon floated over a well struck free. Dublin were struggling against the elements to get the ball to their dangerous inside forward line but some good approach play ended with full forward Aoife Bugler dispatching the ball over the bar to give Dublin the lead again.
It was to be the Dubs last score of the half and Roscommon finished strongly to the break with three unanswered points from Shauna Fallon and two Kelly Hopkins frees to give them a two point lead heading into the dressing rooms on a scoreline of 0-05 to 0-03.
Dublin needed a quick start to the second half and came flying out of the blocks and the teams were level inside the opening three minutes. A free from Laoise Quinn was followed seconds later with a brilliant point from Player Of The Match Caragh Dawson.
Roscommon were now finding it more difficult to create chances as the Dublin defence and midfield got on top. The girls in blue pushed two ahead by the 42nd minute thanks to the shooting accuracy of Laoise Quinn from frees as she hit two in a row.
Roscommon finally got their first score of the second half with 13 minutes left to play with a point from Shauna Fallon to leave the bare minimum between the teams.
But the Dubs were in the ascendancy and another successful Laoise Quinn was followed by the point of the game. Dublin midfielder Roisin Drohan broke forward, received a pass, but the ball broke away from her, she chased it and with a Roscommon player closing in, she struck the ball brilliantly off the ground and the ball sailed straight over the black spot for a roof raising point.
With time running out the girls from the West needed a goal, but Dublin were in no mood to facilitate them and ferociously hunted down Roscommon players turning the ball over multiple times.
With three minutes to go Shauna Fallon struck a nice free over the bar but it was to be Roscommon’s last score of the final and Dublin powered home with three points on the spin, the first a nice point from Caragh Dawson, the second was a 45 from Aoife Bugler and the final point of the game was an excellent point from the hurl of Roisin Drohan to seal a well deserved victory for Dublin and the Division 3 League title.
