Cuala and Castleknock lock horns in the first of this year’s We Are Dublin GAA Camogie Championship finals.
Cuala v Castleknock
Sunday, September 30th. 1:00pm
Abbotstown, Dublin.
This Sunday the attention will be focused on Abbotstown as the first final in this year’s We Are Dublin GAA Camogie Championships takes place. The Intermediate 1 Championship got off to an early start as the Leinster Intermediate Camogie Club Championship starts on October 7th. And the team that’s victorious on Sunday will represent Dublin against the Laois winners in a preliminary round.
The Teams
Cuala and Castleknock have navigated their way through the round robin phase and over come the Semi Finals to set up this fixture. Cuala finished Group 1 with three wins from four, leaving them sharing the top of the group with Na Fianna B and Naomh Peregrine. But the Cuala girls score difference so miles ahead of the other sides. Along they notched up big wins over Naomh Brid, Naomh Peregrine and Clann na Gael. And their reward for their efforts was a Semi Final match against Naomh Padraig who finished runners up in Group 2.
Last weekend Cuala put Naomh Padraig to the sword, beating them by 0-11 on a score of 4-14 to 3-06. They’ve one more game to get through to become Intermediate Champions.
Castleknock finished level at the top of Group 2 but were 0-10 the better on score difference to Naomh Padraig. Castleknock suffered defeat by Lucan Sarsfield B in Round 3 but that would be their only loss. Wins over Thomas Davis, Ballyboden St. Endas B and Naomh Padraig meant they’d qualified for the knock out stage. And on Sunday they faced a battle with Na Fianna B for the second Final slot.
Home advantage was key as the Castleknock girls, finished 0-08 clear of Na Fianna on a score of 1-10 to 1-02.
Leinster and Beyond
There’s a lot at stake on Sunday with the winners being crowned Intermediate 1 Championship and going on to represent their county in the Leinster Championship. As mentioned the Dublin representative will play a preliminary qualifier against Laois opponents on October 7th. And should they be successful they’ll face Wexford opposition in the Leinster Quarter Finals on October 14th.
We hope to see plenty of support for the ladies this Sunday in Abbotstown. Throw in is 1:00pm.
