WE ARE DUBLIN GAA, DUBLIN PLAYER OF THE WEEKEND
The days and weeks are flying along and we come to another Wednesday Night and it’s time to name this weeks We Are Dublin GAA, Dublin Player Of The Weekend Award winner.
As we say every week for our new followers who do not know what this is, it’s a weekly award to the player we choose as the standout Dublin player from the previous weekends inter-county action.
Last weekend we had two games to digest with a number of players up for consideration for this weeks award. The Minor Hurlers had a three point victory over Wexford in the Leinster semi-final with Sean Currie the star of the show with a haul of 0-12 on the day, four from play and eight from frees.
Also on Saturday the Dublin U16 Ladies Footballers won the Leinster title for the eight year in a row when they overturned a five point deficit at half time into an eleven point victory of Meath.
And it’s from that game that our winner comes from this week. There were a number of excellent performance from a number of Dublin players in the final, but one player stood head and shoulders above the rest.
Even when Dublin were struggling in the opening half this player was making the tackles, turning the ball over and driving out from the back and stemming the tide of the relentless Meath attacks.
She was even more impressive in the second half as her relentless running from midfield drove Meath onto the back foot and opened up space for herself and her colleagues to exploit.
Time after time she left would be tacklers in her wake, drawing out defenders and cleverly off loading the ball to unmarked teammates to pick off scores.
And she wasn’t left wanting in the scoring department herself hitting a super goal and two beautiful points in the second half.
So we are delighted to announce that the winner of this weeks We Are Dublin GAA, Dublin Player Of The Weekend Award is Fingallins star EMMA McCORMACK.
Well done Emma a very worthy winner for your excellent performance in the Leinster Final. #coygib
