Kilmacud Crokes 4-11

Simonstown 3-04

Kilmacud Crokes have qualified for the Leinster Intermediate Championship final following todays 4-11 to 3-04 win over Simonstown Gaels of Meath.

The Stillorgan based club started the game brightly and had raced ten points clear inside the first twenty minutes courtesy of two well taken goals and looked to be crushing. Croke’s built up the lead thanks to quick movement of the ball and some great interplay with Dublin stars Molly Lamb,Michelle Davoren,Eabha Rutledge and Lauren Magee causing Simonstown lots of headaches.

At this stage the result looked like it was only going one way and it was going to be an easy afternoon for Crokes in the Stillorgan sunshine.

But Simonstown raised two green flags in a four minute spell to cut Kilmacud’s lead in half. At the break the scoreboard read 2-07 to 2-02 in Croke’s favour but Simonstown now had their tails up.

Immediately after the restart Simonstown hit the back of the net again and three minutes later hit a point to leave the bare minimum between the sides and Croke’s had seen a ten point lead disappear at an alarming rate.

Over the next ten minutes the sides traded a point a piece and at this stage it was anyone’s game.

With fifteen minutes left Kilmacud after a well worked move which started in their backline and swept up the pitch raised their third green flag of the day and they drove on from there. They followed it up with an unanswered 1-03 to power their way to the finish line for a well deserved victory.

Croke’s now play Sarsfields of Kildare in the Final. Sarsfields needed extra time to see off the challenge of Milltown of Westmeath. In the end the Girls from Kildare ran out two point winners on a final score of 4-09 to 1-16.

The Leinster Intermediate Final is down for decision on October the 26th with the time and venue to be confirmed. -Nigel
